Synopsis

Being granted a second chance at life and a first time at love was every man’s dream, but for Ace it came with a price.

Ace

By all rights, he should be dead. Serving ten years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit had affected him in ways he couldn’t begin to understand. He’d rolled out of the slammer and into a revenge plot that almost got him killed. By the grace of God, when he’d hit rock bottom, one person reached out a helping hand.

A beautiful redhead with a penchant for mischief took a shine to him and then disappeared, leaving behind only her number scribbled recklessly on his arm. Assuming he can make out all the numbers, he just might have a chance at something amazing.

Barbara

Finally divorcing her narcissistic husband was the best choice Barbara ever made. After living under his control for seven long years, she might have gone a little wild for a minute, what with jumping the hot biker and all. None of that mattered, though, because today was the day she got herself back on track.

After being given the opportunity to excavate a small cache of fossils in a remote area, Barbara is horrified to discover she’s inadvertently led a small team of her archeology students into danger. When they stumble on a secret dumping site of a vicious serial killer, Ace, the big, handsome biker takes charge. But she may have gotten herself and her students into more danger than even he can handle.

Note: Although a part of the Blind Jacks MC series, Ace of Hearts can be read as a standalone and features a new couple!

“I don’t think you’re a bit sorry about missing my class, young man.”

A deep, masculine voice resonated over the phone line. “Oh but I am, Professor Reynolds.”

Lying on her back on the bed with her legs running up the wall, Barbara had never felt so much like a teenager in her entire life. Cradling her cell phone in the crook of her neck, she pulled up her camisole and ran her hands over her breasts. “I’m going to have to give you a big fat zero for class participation that day.”

“If I fail your class, my rich daddy will cut off my allowance.”

Damn, who would have thought her hot biker was good at role-playing? Staying in character, she responded primly, “You should have thought about that before you skipped my lecture, Jeremy.”

“I’m real sorry, professor. Maybe I could stay after class and make up my work.”

“Aren’t you all kinds of motivated to learn about ancient fossils?”

“It’s fascinating stuff. I was told that sometimes teachers give extra credit assignments.”

“We do, but they’re usually really boring.”

“You’re a real smart lady. I’ll bet you could think up something for a naughty boy like me to do for extra credit.”

Could she ever! A dozen truly filthy images swirled around in her head, bumping into each other. “I have several really good ideas.”

“Tell me.” The big biker’s breath was getting rough and aroused.

“I could have you dust all the books in my home office, naked. That would make you think twice about taking your studies more seriously.”

“Let me make sure I understand what you’re telling me. If I were naked in your home and you could make me to do anything in the world, you’d want me to dust your books?”

“I have a list, and dusting is on it.”

Shifting the conversation, he asked, “So, what are you wearing?”

Looking down her body at the innocent white cotton panties and camisole, she decided to tell the hot biker a big fat lie. “I’m wearing a black skirt with a white button-up shirt. The problem is that I can’t quite get the buttons to stay closed over my breasts.”

“You need teacher’s glasses and a pencil behind your ear.”

“You like this game, don’t you?”

“Oh yeah, but I’d like it better if we played it together instead of talking about it on the phone like religiously preoccupied teenagers.”

“Did you ever have a crush on one of your teachers?”

“Hell yeah. They were the only normal people in my life. I liked every teacher I ever had. All of them were so different, pretty in their own ways, and kind to me. It was hard not to crush on them.”

“That’s really sweet. I can almost imagine that.”

“I’m glad you turned out to be a teacher and not a doctor. I associate doctors with getting patched up and pain. Teachers are hot, smart, and sexy in my mind.”

“Well, I can’t see students, so you’ve got three more weeks to go before you can engage in any hot teacher fantasies. I guess my books will have to remain dusty for a few more weeks.”

“How about instead of dusting I plunk your pretty little ass down on your desk and bury my face between your legs.”

Climbing into bed behind his lovely professor seemed different. At the clubhouse, neither of them felt particularly at home. It was clear that Barbara felt totally comfortable in her own home, though. The strange part was that Ace felt very much at home there, too.

“This is all kinds of weird for me.”

“My house must seem like a tiny doll house to you.”

“It feels more like a warm, safe nest that’s been made enticing by the addition of a beautiful and accommodating woman. I’m feeling a bit like the world’s last dodo bird or something.”

“In that case, we had better start making babies before you go extinct.”

“The last time you said something like that it triggered a little episode of self-loathing.” Pulling the blanket up around them, he murmured reassuringly, “Don’t worry, this time I have my head screwed on straight. I’m intentionally not using a condom and will be trying my best to make ugly little dodo babies with you.”

“You’re so funny.”

Ace frowned. “Why do you want to get pregnant?”

“Fertility stays relatively stable until around age thirty in women. After that, it begins to drop off slightly. Since I gave my marriage a dirt nap, I suppose I’ve been worried about missing my window.” Eyeing him with heated admiration, she continued, “You’re a big, strapping biker. You look like you could get the job done with some swimmers to spare.”

Moving closer, he grinned. “This is like a whole new side of your personality that I’ve never seen.”

Running her hand over his chest, she laughed. “It’s the neurotic and slightly panicking side.”

Jerking his chin for her to give him a kiss, he murmured, “It looks good on you.”

Rather than following his nonverbal communication, she asked softly, “So do you have baby-related secrets to share?”

Reaching out, he wrapped one arm around her and dragged her close. “Sure, but I don’t think you wanna hear them.”

“I do, so cough it up.”

Spanning her stomach with his hand, he said, “I’ve thought about how nice it would be to see my child growing inside you. You’d look really sexy with a baby bump. I’d be one of those obsessed dads who listened to your stomach and told our little princess stories so she’d get used to my voice. Since I don’t know any stories fit to tell a baby, we’d have to go to one of those fancy bookstores and buy some. Maybe we’d get one of those fancy coffees you like so much.”

Her eyes damn near sparkled. “That’s about the sweetest baby secret I ever heard.”

Looking down at his hand on her stomach, he whispered, “I’d have to be really careful, ‘cause I wouldn’t want her to be scared when she saw me for the first time.”

Cupping his handsome, scarred face in her hands, Barbara kissed him on the lips. “Don’t carry all your brother’s sins around in your heart and head for the rest of your life. You deserve a little peace from all that.”

His expression turned soft. “I honestly don’t deserve you.”

“You know what Shakespeare said.”

“Troubles come not single spies but in battalions?”

She grinned. “He did say that. You really know your Shakespeare.”

“Like I already said, I read a lot when I was in lockup.”

“Well, William Shakespeare also said that if we use every man as he deserves, who shall escape whipping?”

“I guess he was pointing out that no one’s perfect,” Ace surmised.

Somehow, quoting Shakespeare while having her hands on his face shifted the darkness of the moment to something approaching intimate.

Rubbing one thumb over his bottom lip, she murmured, “Then again, he never met you. You’re totally my idea of perfect.”

“Bet you say that to all the guys.” His sexy smile made her girl parts flare to life.

“Please tell me that we’re having sex tonight.”

Ace’s expression lit up. “You want to have some sex with me?”

“Did you miss the part about me thinking you’re perfect?”

Picking up the cherry in her glass by the stem, he brought it to her lips. Parting her lips, Barbara allowed him to slide it into her mouth. Closing her teeth slightly, she waited for him to pull the stem. The intensity of his gaze as he watched her chew made her feel crazy things.

“Fuck, you are one sexy woman.”

She smiling, swallowing the cherry. “Another?”

Without looking away from her, he groped around in his little chilled metal dispenser for another and brought it to her lips. Wrapping her hand around his wrist, she used her other hand to take the cherry from him. Bringing it to his lips, they repeated the whole scenario, only in reverse. Tossing the stem onto the bar, she looked down at his hand. “Your fingers are stained red.”

“I’ve been handling cherries.”

Not taking her eyes off his, she brought his finger to her mouth. He swallowed thickly, as he watched her suck his finger. She swirled her tongue around his thick digit, just like she wanted to do to his cock. That concept wasn’t lost on him.

Hooking his finger behind her lower teeth, he pulled her gently forward. When their mouths collided, white-hot need pulsated through her entire body. Ace was a damned good kisser and those hot lips were making her wild. Sliding her fingers through his hair, she practically climbed over the bar to get more of him, vaguely aware that he was shoving the items on bar to the side.

The next thing she knew, he’d lifted her out of her seat, dragged her over the bar, and was walking off with her. That he could manage all that so gracefully and without breaking their kiss was nothing short of amazing. Barbara liked everything about this man. His casual dress, open honesty, and protective nature got to her like nobody’s business.

And now he was about to get to her in ways, she suspected, that no other man ever had.

“Darwin Fucking Dawson, as I live and breathe.”

Ryder did a double take between the two of them as they shot daggers at each other. Tossing the sniper rifle to Darkness, he stated flatly, “Bitch had you in her sights when I rolled up on her.”

The woman fell onto one knee. Glancing down, Ryder realized she had one finger pressed into the bullet wound and her hand smashing down around it. “Forgot to mention, I winged her.”

Darkness stalked up to her, crunching gravel under his boots. Squatting down, he looked her in the face. “Let me get this straight. You were going to shoot my ass?”

“I got no choice,” she claimed, her voice strained. “The devil’s comin’, babe. Either you’re taken out, or my world goes to shit.”

The older biker’s upper lip curved into a snarl. “You still run with Seven Devils? That ain’t so smart. I’m surprised you’re still walking and talking, bitch.”

A sinister voice rang out of the darkness, and a mean looking fucker Ryder had never seen before stepped out of the shadows. “Abby made her choice between the Devil and the Darkness. Now, she’ll do as she’s told, like everyone else.”

Coming instantly to his feet, Darkness somehow ended up with a weapon in each hand. “You should keep your dogs on a shorter leash, Devil. This pretty little bitch strayed onto my property. That makes her mine.” Flicking his hand matter-of-factly, he stated, “Possession is nine tenths of the law, you know.”

Staggering to her feet, Abigail tried to run to Devil. Darkness snapped out one arm, catching her in the chest. The woman bounced back and landed on her ass. Without looking back, Darkness growled, “Don’t try that again or I’ll put a bullet in your brain pan, bitch. You and me, we got business to discuss. After that, you can go crawling back into whatever hole you climbed out of.” Turning his attention back to the man, Darkness sighed. “Why’d you tag this building, Devil? You marking territory for your club?”

“Fuck no. I’m not interested in this little backwater town. We use the river. Don’t need your dumb fucks unloading lead on our boats as we speed by.”

“You could have phoned that shit in.”

“Yeah, my communication skills suck, but I’m bettin’ you ain’t gonna forget our little conversation tonight, now are you?”

“You’re fucking mental if you think we’re gonna roll over and play dead.”

“Didn’t think for a minute you would.” His cold eyes slid to Abigail.

Darkness spoke sourly. “That’s why you sent your bitch to snipe my ass?”

The other man shrugged, his dirty, worn leather cut shifting on his rail-thin body. “Putting a bullet in your head seemed like the shortest distance between two points. This was supposed to be the job that set little Abigail free.” Wheezing a humorless laugh, he snarled, “Looks like it turned out to be the job that got her a new master.”

Darkness froze, and Ryder could tell the little wheels in his head were turning. “Can you give me a terribly compelling reason not to blow your head off where you stand?”

“Killing me won’t change a thing. My old man’s out, and he’ll raze your little club to the ground for spilling one drop of Devil blood.”

Faster than any of them could blink, Darkness squeezed off a round, and Ryder pressed his lips together in a firm line as blood drizzled down the other man’s ear. Neither of them even flinched. Men like Devil and Darkness never flinched, much less backed down, even in the face of certain death. Ryder couldn’t shake the feeling that Abigail Fucking Andrews was at the center of the bitter discord between the two men.

Devil bit out harshly, “Blood for fucking blood it is then, you crazy motherfucker.”

Excerpt

Barely cognizant of her surroundings, Tiffany laid her head against Ryder’s muscular chest. Enjoying the warmth of his body, she allowed him to carry her into their place. Well, it was really his place. Ryder was a bit of an anomaly in that he was a biker with a nice house and insisted upon her moving in with him.

Though living with him was like a dream come true in terms of having good company and someone to cuddle up to, Tiffany did feel guilty for not contributing. At the moment, though, all those worries were a million miles from her mind.

Ryder kicked the door shut and juggled her slightly as he flipped the lock. The house still smelled of the cookies she’d baked earlier in the day, but the sweet scent of almond was nothing compared to the smell of her hot, sexy man. He exuded expensive cologne and sexy male. Kissing his chest, she fisted his shirt in her hand.

“You awake, kitten? We’re home.”

In a sleepy haze, she responded, “I haven’t had a real home in a long time.”

Lifting her slightly, he kissed her forehead. “Well, you got one now. Having you here makes a house worth having.”

“You say the sweetest things.”

“I love you,” he said, his voice rumbling in his chest. Peering down at her, his eyes were practically glowing with happiness…or maybe from the endless shots in celebration of Ace making the cut.

“I think that’s the alcohol talking, handsome.”

Heading straight to the bedroom, he set her on the bed and began peeling off her clothing. “I’m not the one who’s had too much to drink, sweetheart.”

Helping kick off her pants, she mumbled, “I’m not drunk. I providence…romance…promise.” Kicking wildly, she tried to get them over her boots, forgetting that they had been tucked in.

Kneeling down, Ryder gently pulled her boots off then her pants. “Yeah, you sure don’t sound too sober.”

He rose, and she immediately went for the snap on his jeans, since it was at eye level.

Smacking her hands away, Ryder began working her shirt and bra up and over her head. “Cut it out, sweetness. You ain’t gonna be playing with my cock tonight.”

Flopping back on the bed, wearing only her panties, she gazed up at him. “Are you getting naked?”

“I always sleep naked. You know that. You are in no condition to be trying to have sex.”

The idea that he could take advantage of her at this point in their relationship was sweet if not a little frustrating. She knew what she wanted, drinks or no drinks, but persuading her gorgeous biker would take some serious work.

“Maybe I could lay on your side with my legs spread. If your cock accidentally fell into me, well, no one would have to know.”

Chuckling, he began tearing his clothing off. “How about we sleep and see who accidentally falls into who when you’re nice and sober?”
