Guest Post: Double Trouble from Adriana Kraft

One of my favorite recent memes from FaceBook reads as follows: When I get old, they’re never going to say “what a sweet old lady.” They’re gonna say “what on Earth is she up to now?!”

If that sounds like trouble, hold on to your hat—we’ve got a double dose heading your way. Our two recent erotic romance ménage releases feature leading characters at mid-life.

Baby boomers ourselves, we often write characters in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s and beyond. If that’s not what trips your trigger, these two books aren’t for you – but, with any luck, all of us will reach these ages eventually, and we hope our readers do so with vim, vigor, and yes, a vibrant and active sex life. We like to think some of our characters can light the way.

Hot to the Touch takes the mid-fifties couple who star in our Swinging Games series to a clothing optional RV resort for some summer fun. In A Woman for Zachary, the early twenties heroine who starred in Seducing Cat hooks up with a mid-forties woman and an early-fifties man to ignite the spark that’s been smoldering between them.

A Woman for Zachary

It’s New York! Broadway beckons, but Meg has more fun keeping an erotic triangle going with her current flame, Zach Cullen, and her drama coach, Josie Patrice.

Zachary Cullen has ignored Josette Patrice’s overtures for years, but she agrees to take on his latest protégé-slash-arm-candy Meghan Keenan in her off-Broadway workshop theater. Though the girl has incredible talent, Josie would stake her reputation on that little thing being a switch-hitter, like herself, and she doesn’t want Zach to be duped.

Josie sets out to seduce Meg and expose her for what she is, but all bets are off when Meg turns the tables on Josie to hook her up with Zach.

Josie was shaking her head back and forth before Zach finished speaking. “That’s not enough.”

Zach closed the distance between the two of them.

She pressed her back against the wall, and he placed his palms against it, framing her head. She licked her lips.

What was he doing? She’d imagined him being this close countless times, but not in this way. Not in anger. Not struggling with his sense of fairness over sharing another woman. She kept her arms locked at her sides.

“That’s exactly what Meg said. What is enough? Do we draw lots for her?”

Josie shook her head.

“Maybe I can have her even days of the month and you odd days.”

“That might work.” Josie could hardly breathe. Zach’s male scent was overpowering. She’d agree to almost anything, if he just stayed where he was. She should be afraid of him, but she wasn’t. This was a man she’d known for a decade. He might be very angry, even deeply pained, but he wouldn’t hurt her—at least not physically.

“It works for parking cars in the winter. It’s a beginning, I guess.” His eyes darkened with a passion she couldn’t decipher. She watched his eyes shut and re-open.

And then his mouth was crushing against hers. She tried to breathe through her nostrils. His muffled groans filled her mouth. Tentatively, she lifted her hands to his shoulders. It was as if he was in a trance. She sighed and pulled him closer. Maybe she was, too.

Hot to the Touch

Can the summer get any hotter? Escaping Southern Indiana summer heat, swingers Brett and Jen check out a Minnesota clothing optional RV resort, where the rules are very different from the swing lifestyle venues they’re used to. When they spot a hot looking couple in the swimming pool, they’re definitely interested, but they know better than to make the first move. Will Paul and Kim turn out to be players, or will Brett and Jen get a cold shoulder?

“Hi guys,” Kim said, giving Jen a hug. “We ran into traffic, but we’re here at last. I love your outfit, Jen. That short skirt is just right for your long legs. You guys are fine dancers.”

“And you look fantastic,” Jen managed to say. “That top is so sexy. As you said, just a touch of mystery. And I love those dangling earrings. They sparkle nearly as much as you do. Absolutely stunning.”

“Thank you,” Kim murmured, turning to hug Brett.

“As stunning as you look,” Paul said, gathering Jen into his arms for a long hug. “You both look scrumptious. Good enough to eat. Right, Brett?”

Brett nodded.

Jen noticed Kim made no move to break away from Brett’s arms. She watched the olive-skinned woman drag her lips across Brett’s wrist before lifting it up and sliding onto the curved bench. Jen slid in from the other side, with the guys sitting on either end. A bare leg brushed against her left leg, a trousered one against her right. If those legs were meant to only tease, she’d be very, very upset before the night was over.

Jaya scrolled through the messages on her phone, rereading the instructions from the owner of the house. Her palms were sweaty in spite of the air conditioning. She shifted her hips, trying to find a comfortable spot on the broad leather seats.

“Do you wish to stop, Mistress? It’ll be at least an hour before we reach the house.” The driver’s husky voice matched her stocky build and ruddy face. Jaya appraised the thick hands wrapped around the wheel and the way the chauffeur’s livery draped her broad shoulders and considered it. The woman made eye contact with Jaya in the rearview mirror, one eyebrow raised and lips in a closed-mouth smile. Jaya imagined saying, “Yes, let us stop somewhere and I’ll flog you until we’re both satisfied,” but the instructions from Rowan House were explicit and interactions with the staff were not permitted outside the house.

“No.” Jaya kept her voice soft and let her gaze rest on the woman’s face in the mirror. “I’m tired of people staring at me.”

“You’re a sight, Ma’am, if you don’t mind me saying so.”

“You’d think they’d never seen a woman in a suit before.” Jaya left out the word “dark-skinned.”

“It’s your height, Ma’am. And you’re fetching in that suit. I imagine out of it as well.”

Jaya looked down. She had not flirted like this in years and it was wonderful, even if she knew it was not going to lead to anything more.

“Do you always flirt with your guests?” She relaxed her shoulders and sat back in the seat.

“Only the ones I find—” The driver looked at Jaya in the mirror. “Stunning.” She turned on the radio and went back to piloting the long, black town car through roundabouts as they left Armadale. As they traveled farther from the city, she was occupied dodging rough spots and the occasional mud-splattered sheep wandering along the edge of the single-track road.

Jaya sank into the soft leather seats, grateful for the distraction of the driver’s banter and the tinted windows, dark enough to hide her face from anyone who might try to catch a glimpse of the car’s passengers. On the ferry to Skye, she had caught more than one mother reminding her children not to stare. The curious faces of the children were better than the hard looks she got from the men on the ship. Half of them looked like they wanted to fuck her; the other half looked like they wanted to kill her. Some probably wanted to do both.

She had not anticipated how angry she would feel under the gaze of the other passengers. She had almost wished one of the rude men would start something so she could finish it. She had worn this suit to her father’s funeral, to her brother’s dismay. An orphan again at thirty-five. The high from the banter with the driver wore off and she slumped in her seat. She sifted through her memories of the last two years. Her father’s illness and slow death, her brother’s anger, and Deidre’s departure blended into an oppressing melancholy. What the hell was I thinking? Why am I looking for comfort here?

She could have chosen another venue for her adventure, but Jaya wanted to experience this house. The house Deidre spoke of as her home. She lied to herself, telling herself she chose this house because it was highly recommended as a discreet, old-school establishment dedicated to unique and personalized experiences.

Deidre. The woman of sorrows. Never was a woman more truly named. Jaya scrolled through the photos of Deidre on her phone. Brutal memories of their life together filled the emptiness of the ride. As they traveled farther into the country, the battery on her phone quietly expired. Jaya tucked it into her bag and let the rocking of the car soothe her as they drove past rough stone walls and rocky pastures.

An Interview With Brenda Murphy

What’s harder, naming your characters, creating the title for your book or the cover design process?

Creating the book title is hardest for me. I use a very generic working title and save the hard part of coming up with a title last.

How do you answer the question “Oh, you're an author...what do you write?"

It depends on who is asking. If it is someone I know, or someone in the writing profession, I say lesbian erotic romance. If it is a stranger, or someone I don’t know well I say I write romance.

What does your family think of your writing?

My wife is amazing. She is an academic and a writer also so we give each other the time we need to get our writing done.

My mom and sister are big romance readers, and when I get stuck on a plot point I can call them and ask what they think. They will also read blurbs and give me feedback on them.

Tell us about your current work in process and what you’ve got planned for the future.

I have a book, titled One that is contracted with NineStar Press and I will have edits to work on over the summer. I’m doing pre-writing for a F/F/F romance set in a vineyard Italy that I will start writing in the fall. The lead is a secondary character from my novel Sum of the Whole. After that I have a story about a medical resident/stripper that I will write in the spring. My goal is to submit/publish two novels a year.

Do you have any advice for all the aspiring writers out there?

Keep writing. Keep learning. Make it a priority even if you only have fifteen minutes a day, use it. Don’t give up.

Thank you Brenda!!

Blog Tour & Giveaway ~ Running, The Dark Woods Tales #1, by Amanda Kay

Running
Series: The Dark Woods Tales #1
Author: Amanda Kay
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy F/F Romance
Published: April 11, 2017
Trolls...

We've all heard the stories. The childhood tales forever imbedded in our minds. Tezzi is no different. She would sit in bed night after night as her mother told her of the trolls.

The tales of the Dark Woods are keeping her up at night. And she dreams of a lush dark place only in fairy tales. Her heart pounds and her feet want to take flight. She feels her mind running.

Running towards a fantasy, running towards adventure, running towards something she's only dreamed about.

Kea didn't speak when I finished that part of my mom's story, but I saw the tears welling up in her eyes. I covered her hand with mine, "Are you okay?"

"Was Randi lying?"

"About loving my mom? No. My mom never doubted her love, but everything else, my mom questions until this day.”

Kea sighed, "That's understandable, from what you've told me so far."

I nodded, "Yeah, I wish I could find answers for her."

She squeezed my hand. "You will. We will." The words rolled off her tongue like a vow.

"I hope so," I whispered.

After we returned to the campsite, we did our usual routine.

Food, showers, and then crawling into our tent, ignoring the stuff Mya and crew were spewing our way. "Goodnight, Tezzi." Kea yawned and I followed her lead.

"Goodnight, Kea."

Closing my eyes, I fell asleep quickly. My body and mind exhausted from the days I had been having. Actually, telling my mom's story to someone who wasn't judging us and being in Vlukens Grove caused my heightened excitement and anxiety.

"Mommy, if you loved Randi, why did you marry daddy?" She sighed and stroked my hair.

"It was a means to an end." I looked at her confused. I didn't know what that meant.

"Did you love him?" I asked her with wide eyes.

"For a time, baby girl."

"Are you happy alone?"

She looked down at me and kissed my forehead, "I'm not alone. I have you."

I threw my arms around her, "I love you, mommy."

"I love you so very much, baby," she whispered, hugging me back. "Now lay down and I'll tell you more of the story."

I snuggled close to her, waiting for more. "Ready, mommy."

"I went back to that spot, day after day, hoping to catch one glimpse of Randi with the trolls, but I never saw anything more. I felt lost, like I was losing everything, until one day…"

I hated when she paused, I needed to know. I wanted to know. "Tell me. Tell me." I bounced excitedly.

"Calm down, Tezzi," she warned gently. "The flames shot up just as the sun began to set. They danced around and chanted much like that first time, but then I saw her. I saw Randi. Their chants grew to praise as they all bowed. I tried to change my position and in doing so, I stepped on a stick, cracking it in the process." I gasped. "Her eyes met mine and with a wave of her finger, she sent the trolls charging at me."

"What did you do?"

"I ran. I ran as fast as I could. I ran until I couldn't run anymore. I tripped and felt something touch me, but I crawled away until I could get onto my feet again."

"More, mommy," I begged, knowing it was late and she was going to stop.

She kissed my forehead, "Tomorrow, my sweet Tezzi."

I am a Paranormal/Fantasy Adult and YA Romance Author (M/F, F/F, & F/F/M stories)

I am a Florida girl at heart, but since getting married I have lived in Washington, South Carolina, and our latest move Connecticut. I hold a B.A. in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Political Science from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.

Writing is something I love and since I am blessed to be a stay at home mom I thought I would try my hand at getting the stories in my head out and see how far I could go. I tried a few years ago to go through a Literary Agency, but it went nowhere. The self-publishing market was just starting to get hot so I self-published two books mainly for family and friends. I then discovered the world of New Adult. I wanted to stick with my paranormal roots and began thinking up story ideas that took on not only a paranormal element, but a fantasy element as well.

So, that is me in a nutshell. I am a little crazy and simple and I love my life and my family.
