A series of female giggles pierced the silence. She looked upstairs to where the sound resonated and saw two women in barely there bikini’s running down the steps. Behind them was Joshua Mancini himself wearing a pair of shorts and a black t-shirt. He was chasing the women.

Amy geared herself up to meet her new employer. Even if she was appalled at the state of the house she had to make that first impression a good one.

As he got closer she saw that he was truly handsome indeed with his sleek muscle and untamed pride. What she saw online was totally drool-worthy, but those images had nothing on the real-life Joshua Mancini who was six feet six, extremely well built with a ridged wall of a chest that bulged against the soft fabric of his t- shirt. He was breathtaking to look at with his black shiny, spiky hair, tanned skin and piercing eyes with an unusual mix of blue and green. Turquoise. That was the color. It was turquoise like the sea in somewhere like the Caribbean. Not that she’d ever been, but she’d seen enough pictures.

He was the kind of man that made you want to stare, even against your will. She quickly adjusted herself and her focus. It would do her no good to go all girlie weak-kneed and turn into some babbling buffoon in front of him. She had to look professional.

He looked her over with appreciation as he made his descent down the stairs and stopped a few paces away from her, making her feel like a dwarf even in her heels that added an extra two inches to her mere five feet and four inches. The women joined him and giggled as they tried to fix each other’s hair.

“Good, the stripper’s here,” he said with a wide smile that revealed super gorgeous dimples in his exotic high cheek bones. It took her a second or two to realize that he was referring to her.

“No, no I’m from the agency,” she replied quickly. “I’m Amy, your new PA.” That was when he looked up at her and narrowed his eyes. “If you could just point me in the direction of the office I’ll get started.”

There, that was professional.

To her surprise, however, he started to laugh. It was the usual sort of off balanced laughter you’d expect from someone who was truly wasted and didn’t know what they were even laughing at. “Those people are jokers.”

“This is no joke. I’ll take care of all your paperwork and everything.” She offered a smile.

“Ha, ha. Everything? Well you can start in there.” He set his square jaw in a firm line and pointed to the mess in the living room. “Clean that up will you.”

Her mouth dropped. She attempted to protest but he just walked away, leaving her there to gawk at the crazy mess.

“Aaah!” he yelped, startled out of his daydreams of grandeur by the sight of four tiny figures running straight towards him. His hands flew up to flutter in a great furor about his head, but he was far too frightened to leap to his feet.

The four figures racing towards him were about the size of children, but they, like Anti the grumpy boatman, were not entirely human. They each had the head of a different animal. One looked like a lion, another a hyena, yet another a tiger, and the last looked like a canary. (A canary? thought Barnabas. The other creatures looked ferocious and fearsome, but the canary was not that scary at all. Indeed, it was quite adorable, really).

Still, Barnabas did not find it at all adorable when the four of them reached out, dragged him to his feet, and began to bear him away quite roughly.

“Unhand me!” he shouted, affronted and afraid. “You scoundrels! I’ll have the bobbies on you before you… Ow!” he squealed as the canary delivered a mighty peck to his hand.

Review

Barnabas Tew and the Case of the Missing Scarab is not a book I would normally pick up, but since I'm interested in history and ancient Egypt, I figured I take a chance on it.

I was pleasantly surprised by the story line, Barnabas, and Wilfred. The banter between Barnabas and Wilfred was brilliant, I couldn't get enough of it. Barnabas, himself, is a fun, exciting character you can't help but love. Seeing the world through his eyes will defiantly fascinate you.  The mystery behind the missing scarab is suspenseful and keeps on the edge of your seat.

So if you are looking for a read that will captivate you with intrigue, history, and laughs, then I would recommend you pick up Barnabas Tew and the Case of the Missing Scarab.

She lets out a sigh of relief, but my cock hears something different in her gasping exhale. If you've never read J.D. Hawkins before but you like the title, then I highly recommend you pick up Cocky Chef and find out why Mr. Hawkins has such a huge following.

In Cocky Chef we meet Cole and he's just as cocky as you'd image. He's had some highs and he's had some lows, but he always comes back stronger than ever.

Willow is the new cook and she's as talented as she is sexy. She's sassy, smart, and that little something missing in Cole's life.

Their chemistry sizzles both in the kitchen and out. Talk about hot, hot hot!

However, things sometimes go awry and the past comes back to haunt you. It's what you do after all seems lost... do you wash your hands and walk away, or do you regroup and fight for love?

Holy guacamole! I loved very second of this book. Even with Cole's cockiness, you can't help but love him. I love Willow's fire and spunk, she's more than able to handle Cole. You gotta love a woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind.

I really love picking up a Hawkins' book because he has a knack of writing an exciting, steamy book with heart and soul and a whole lot of passion. The story line sucks you in and keeps you captivated until the spectacular end.

So if you haven't read anything by J.D., then you're in for a scrumptious treat. If you already love J.D., then you are going to devour this succulent read.
