Luke strode around to Cass’s side of the table. “All right, ladies, I think you’ve had enough fun for one night.”

“No!” all female voices said at once.

“We’re ssssstill playing.” Cass looked up with pleading green eyes that made him want to carry her straight downstairs and not go to sleep. If she was up for it and wasn’t forty sheets to the wind, he might consider doing just that.

“I’m winning,” she said, holding up her hand. “See? I’ve got thhhhhhree aces and two nines.” She squinted and pulled the cards closer to her face. “Or is that four nines? Yes! Four! I see four of them!”

“Damn it!”

“Man!”

“Never mind.”

“Forget it.”

The rest of the women slapped their cards down on the table and chose to pour another round into their empty glasses.

“Does that mean the game’s over?” Cass looked around the table with an innocent expression that made him chuckle.

“Yes,” Estelle said, searching her small purse. “You cleaned us out. I ain’t got another nickel to my name.”

“Like that’s different from any other poker night,” Rose said, lifting her whiskey to her mouth and taking a sip.

“Come on,” Luke said with a hand out to Cassandra. “Bedtime.”

“Again?” Cass pouted. “Why do you always tell me what to do? I’m purrrrrrfectly capa-bobble. Cape-ab-able.” She cleared her throat. “Cap-a-ble to get myself to bed on my own.”

He signaled toward the door to the basement. “By all means.” This should be good.

Her lips bunched and she crossed her arms. “No.”

He cocked an eyebrow. “Excuse me?”

“You h-heard me.” Hiccup. “I’m not ready for bed.”

A snicker sounded from the other end of the table.

Daring a glance, he caught Ash’s shit-eating grin.

“Oh, you’re definitely ready,” Luke said, reaching for her elbow.

She jerked away, tilting her head to the side and lifting her eyebrows in challenge.

Lips of those seated around the dining room table danced.

“Cass,” he said. “You’re drunk. You’ve taken all their money. It’s time to go to bed.”

“Fine,” she said.

“Good.” He reached again. “Let’s—”

“You go,” she said, leaning away from him. “I’m f-fine with my ffffriends.”

He inhaled two deep breaths. When that didn’t calm him down and she didn’t show any sign of getting up, he said, “I’m going to count to five and if you’re not up, so help me...”

She hesitated, not out of panic, but in defiance. Then she reached for her shot glass that had been refilled.

“Don’t you dare,” he said in a voice he hoped was like steel.

A devious grin curled on her lips. “Or what?”

“Or...” Christ, he didn’t know.

He’d spank her? Yeah, that would go over really well for the both of them. Her heated stares and the hard-on he was trying like hell to cover up would love a good round of spanking. But hell, why not?

He bent close to her ear, lowering his voice so their audience couldn’t hear. “Or else I’m going to take you downstairs, throw you over my knee, and spank you.”

She turned slowly, wearing that sex kitten expression again. The stop-him-dead look. “Do you promise?”

God. Damn it.

Blood rushed from every extremity and pooled right where it was biologically designed to. He quickly dropped to his knees so no one at the table would get a front-row glance at his reaction.

“Cass,” he said in a soft, low voice. “You’re killing me.”

She must have heard his plea, because her expression changed to something much less stubborn. “Good.”

He pulled back, waiting to see if she’d smile or laugh. Something to show she was joking.

She didn’t. She stared at him straight-faced without fidgeting.

“Good?” Luke whispered to Cass.

“Mmm-hmm,” was all she said.

“That’s it? You’re going to make a comment like that, all serious, and then not elaborate? Why?”

Hiccup. “Isn’t it obvious?”

“No.”

See, this was why he didn’t tangle with women. They were crazy and confusing and never knew what they wanted outside of the bedroom. Hell, half the time they didn’t know what they wanted in the bedroom until he showed them.

“Why don’t you explain it to me?”

“You’re confusssssing me,” she said. “A lot.” She punctuated the word with a poke of her finger to his chest. “How do I know you’re nnnnot like the resssssst of them.”

The rest of who? Other men?

He waited, figuring she’d go on. Seemed like he was going to wait awhile because the only thing she was communicating was a puzzled expression. The wheels were turning, but he didn’t think the hamster was still on the wheel. Probably fell off and passed out after the third or fourth shot of whiskey.

“Cass,” he said through a sigh.

She stood from her chair. “Forget it.” Hiccup. Then a swift nod to the others at the table. “Good night, ladies. It was fffffun.”

Synopsis

Wyatt Montgomery knows a barrel of legendary Zoria imperial stout will help his Denver gastropub stay on top. The only problem is the brewery that made it is no longer in business. When Wyatt hears the brewmaster has only one barrel left, he won’t stop until it’s his. He doesn’t consider what this mythical barrel might cost him. And he certainly doesn’t anticipate his reaction to the heart-stoppingly beautiful brewmaster he needs to convince to sell him the beer.

When Wyatt rushes into Bec Dempsey’s small-town cooperative offering to buy the last barrel of her precious Zoria, she’s thrown for a loop. She’s been burned by city-slickers before, and she’ll be damned if she’ll let it happen again. But when things start heating up between them, Bec decides to make Wyatt a counteroffer. One she hopes he won’t refuse.

Excerpt

Bec washed the dishes methodically, piling them in the pan of rinse water so that he could put them in the drainer. The process moved along briskly as long as he didn’t pay any attention to the tension between them that was thick enough to cut with a knife. The whole evening was rapidly drawing to a close. He could walk out of her apartment without causing any more problems—he’d be on his way back to the hotel in a matter of minutes. No harm, no foul.

Or not. He watched Bec for a moment. Her hair frizzed slightly from the warm damp air as she leaned over the dishes. He could see the faint fluff of red against the side of her face. Her milky skin was slightly pink from the heat.

He had a sudden image of milk white breasts with nipples like roses. The hair between her legs would probably be red, too. He’d definitely like to find out for sure.

She looked up suddenly, as if she’d only now become aware that he was watching her. Almost without thinking about it, he raised his hand to her cheek, feeling the warmth of her skin against his palm.

He brought his mouth to hers, breathing in her slight gasp of surprise, his hands dropping to her shoulders. For a moment they stood joined, her hands pressing against his chest, and then her mouth opened beneath his and his tongue darted in to taste. Sweet, so sweet. But something else too, like salted caramel, sweet and savory and unexpected. He moved closer, sliding a hand down her back, and heard her purr of arousal as her arms went around his neck. He cupped her ass, tight with muscle, and his pulse beat hard.

What he’d been wanting all night. What he’d been wanting longer than that if he was honest. Touching, tasting, moving. Yes, yes, yes.

Or not. Bec stepped back, eyes wide, lips slightly open as she gasped in a breath. “No,” she whispered. “This can’t… We can’t… I can’t do this.”

Review

If you are looking for a fast paced, seductive, and slightly suspenseful read, then Grounds for Seduction is just what you need.

This is my first book by Shelli and after reading the blurb for Grounds for Seduction, I was really looking forward to it. Right from the start, I was captivated and couldn't put it down. The story line was intriguing and can really pull in the reader.

What I really love is the hero Gabriel Martinez. He's tall, dark, handsome, sweet, protective and has an incredibly big heart. Watching him fight his feelings for Madison is delightful, but it's his protectiveness that is really irresistible. He's known Madison for years so protecting her is like second nature to him, but the more time he spends with her the more he can't deny his feelings. He'd do anything for her, even drink the horrible coffee she makes him. Just when you think you can't fall for him anymore, he does something that makes you swoon even more.

Madison is trying to make something of herself after years of being the spoiled child taking things for granted. At times she seems a bit self-centered, but you can tell she's trying to grow and mature. What I love about her is that she doesn't take no for answer, she goes after what she wants.

I found Grounds for Seduction a rather enjoyable read. Gabe and Madison have a chemistry that is seductive and indisputable. Their passion is pure and their love is remarkable. This is a perfect read that has heat and full of heart. And I look forward to read what comes next in this series.

Review

Worth the Wait and Jeremy Denning were undoubtedly worth the wait!

Jeremy has his heart broken three years ago, and ever since then he's avoid any type of long term relationship. A love 'em and leave 'em is his motto and he sees no reason to think any differently.

Grace Bailey is on a cleanse, getting rid of all the toxins in her life in what she eats, drinks, says, and more importantly men. Her last break up opened her eyes and this cleanse promises to remove the bad elements and help her see the good.

A chance meeting brings these two together, their attraction is undeniable, but Grace is sticking to her cleanse which means starting something with Jeremy is not possible. This is all just bad timing.

But Jeremy isn't going to let her get away that easy, he'll be the friend she needs if that is only way to keep her in his life. But the more time the spend together, the stronger their connection becomes.

If Grace wants to stick to her plan, then Jeremy will help her. He'll wait until this cleanse is over and hopefully be the man she needs.

I absolutely love the Kingston Ale House series and Worth the Wait is by far my favorite. I loved that they two have a chemistry that is deeper than just physical. I loved watching their friendship grow and deep as the months past. A deep, loyal, and trusting love develops that neither thought was possible given their past. What I especially love is that when they think they have destroyed their relationship, they still fight for each other knowing their love is worth fighting for.

Seeing the couples from the previous books was fun, and meeting the new cast of characters was intriguing. Mrs. Abellis was my favorite.

I loved this book, it's witty, funny, sassy, and sexy. I didn't want to put it down and I seriously didn't wait to see it end. This sweet and endearing romance story is one I highly recommend. If you are new to AJ Pine, I  suggest picking up the Kingston Ale House series today, I promise you'll be pleased you did.

Three Simple Words

three-simple-words-coverShe’s holding out for a happy ever after.

Annie
I know where to find my happily ever after—between the pages of a romance novel. It’s why I sell books, why I blog about them, and why I’ll never get disappointed by love.So what if my brother’s best friend from high school is now a bestselling author? Or that he just blew back into town on a Harley, filling out a pair of jeans like he never did before? Or that he’s agreed to do a signing at my bookstore on such short notice? Because despite all his adoring female fans, I kind of hated his book.

Wes
The last time I saw Annie Denning, she was a senior in high school, three years older than me and way out of my league.

Now I’m her last-minute date to a wedding, and what started as a night of pure fun has turned into something more real than either of us anticipated.Annie is my muse. When I’m with her, my writer’s block fades away, and the words finally flow.

The only problem? She wants the fairy tale—her very own happily ever after—and anyone who’s read my book knows the truth. I just don’t believe they exist.

Excerpt

Isabel rose slowly to face Sir Drogo. She let him hold the canvas drape aside before stepping past him into the bracing chill of the great hall.

She shivered. It was time.

Unfortunately, by the look on his face, the dark suggestion in his voice—and the drawn curtain—she knew exactly what it was time for.

Her lesson on how to seduce a man.

“Are you cold?” he asked, his brow lowered.

In her fantasy, it was out of concern for her, after her spill in the icy beck.

“Not a bit,” she snapped, annoyed with herself for wishing he felt something, anything, for her.

She let him take her hand in his and lead her toward the smoky light of the brazier at the distant end of the hall, as far from the entrance to the kitchen—and Maggie and the others—as the manor house would allow.

“Do you remember what you learned about the dancing the other day?” he began.

“I already knew how to dance, so your instruction was wasted.”

He halted abruptly, crushing her fingers with his, and put his other hand to her cheek to nudge her face toward him. His words were steady, his expression impassive. “A lady must be gracious and kind at all times, even if her wrath is invoked.”

Glory of God, how she wanted to spit. She should be gracious and kind. The man had just saved her and Phoebe’s lives! But her contrary nature reared up instead...because his very nearness made her tremble with inexplicable excitement. Unacceptable!

With her teeth bared in a false smile, she said, “Thank you, my lord, for your careful instruction. I do recall precisely what you tried to tell me in your inadequate language, which hasn’t the vocabulary to accomplish what it needs.”

He tugged on her arm, imparting a jolt of pain to her shoulder. She used her free hand to rub it, giving him her meanest glower.

“Say it again,” he commanded. “This time, praise me for my vast knowledge and sage advice.”

Her jaw dropped in disbelief. She couldn’t help it. She stopped rubbing her shoulder.

“Say it,” he repeated, placing his thumb beneath her chin and applying upward pressure until her mouth closed. “Tell me how you could never manage without my esteemed guidance.”

“You jest, surely.”

His hand remained below her chin and the pad of his thumb brushed gently over her lips. Whatever did he mean by the gesture? It seemed overly personal, aggressive.

She should have shoved his hand away, loudly declared his impertinence, but something kept her from doing so—his gaze locked on hers, perhaps, or the fact that his other hand still gripped hers immovably against his thigh.

“I’ve never been more serious,” he said.
