Excerpt

She. Was. Beautiful.

Still is, he thought.

He scooted closer to the wall, repositioned himself for comfort, and then once again brought his face to the small hole he had made in the closet. Placing his eye over the peephole he watched, and remembered.

Catarina Stone was standing before her mirror brushing out the tangles in her thick black hair as she blow dried it to make it smooth. His palms itched to touch her hair. He felt himself getting hard.

She wore a simple white nightgown that reached her knees. Her feet were bare. What he could see of her legs showed him she was still fit. Perfect. He adjusted his erection choking back the groan that threatened to escape from his lips.

He had to sit back for a moment, collect himself.

He counted to twenty, and then leaned forward again to watch.

She had unplugged her blow dryer, then disappeared into the bathroom, and he cursed his impatience. He watched until his eyes began to water, trying not to blink so he wouldn't miss her coming back into the room. He'd be able to catch a glimpse of her face then.

It seemed like forever. But ten minutes later she emerged from her ensuite, and grabbed the remote off her high boy dresser.

He nearly choked back a sob at her beauty. The whore. That's what she had been, still was. Yet he loved her. She had been kind to him once. That was when it began, twelve years ago. Catarina was thirty-one now. But he still remembered her at nineteen. He'd been just a few years older. Only twenty-two. She'd disappeared. Vanished. Then everything had come crashing down around him. His father still rotted in jail, but he'd managed to escape. But for two years he'd yearned for her. Her smile. Those eyes that glowed grey with flecks of gold. She hadn't smiled much then. But for him she had. They had been friends, he'd thought.

He'd brought her extra food, books to write in. She was always writing in her little books. He'd asked her about them once. She said they were her diaries. But they were all in Dutch. Her language. She was born in Amsterdam. She'd told him that.

He got bits and pieces out of her when he brought her treats. But he never dared to stay too long in her presence then. He didn't want his father to find out, plus she was a working girl. One of his father’s many slaves.

Catarina stood, legs slightly apart by her bed. She was close enough to touch. He wanted to touch her. He'd never dared. He sniffed at the wall trying to inhale her scent as he imagined stroking her thighs, cupping her.

His cock hardened even more, and it became so painful. Yet he resisted.

Not yet.

Catarina settled on Bay News 9, a local twenty-four hour news program. She always did that. She'd surf the local stations, but always chose the news. She set the timer on the remote so the television would shut itself off in forty-five minutes, and placed it on her night stand. She quickly crawled into bed. She always slept in the middle. On her back, then in the night she would roll to her side away from him.

It never took her long either. She was usually out in fifteen minutes, and then came the turn. Away from him. Just like before.

He watched. He waited. And just like clockwork, she fell asleep.

After she turned, only then did he grasp his cock in his hand after fishing it out of his pants, and jerk off. He came silently, but wanted to scream her name. Catarina. He silently lifted his closed fist, and pretended to smash the wall that separated them. He cleaned himself up, and got ready to go to work. He covered the hole with white putty that he'd be able to remove tomorrow. But now he had hallways to vacuum, mirrors to clean, and banisters to polish. The Trump Towers in Tampa did not clean itself. And he needed to hurry. This wasn't even his floor.

Salvatore shut the closet door, and padded out of the empty apartment. The owners were snowbirds, and they were gone for eight long, beautiful months of the year. That gave him time—plenty of time. He hummed softly as he hit the stairwell taking him back down to the seventh and eighth floors.

He immediately got to work upon finding his cart.

Ah, Catarina. He'd missed her. And she brought back those urges he thought he'd been able to suppress. A plan began to form. He hadn't done anything bad in nine years. Nine long, lonely years. And she had made him do it when she disappeared.

Twelve years ago, this beauty had escaped him. She wouldn't do that again, he vowed. Never again. If she tried, she would be beautiful no more.

The old man dropped his hand from Gio’s arm, and looked wistfully up the block towards his own house, just eight up from Gio’s.

“I used to watch her, Lisa, run to your house every day, in high school. She was in love you know. Back then, I thought it was a passing fancy.” He closed his eyes at the memory. “I remember her telling me she was going to marry you one day. She was fourteen when she said it, and I laughed. Then you kids had all those fights, and I took them so seriously. You boys, good boys, I know that now, but you had your share of scrapes in the neighborhood. I was a father of all girls. What did I know? I worried. I heard stories. But I didn’t keep in mind that you were just kids.”

“Sir, I don’t understand what you are trying to say?” The old man was rambling and Gio knew he was trying to make a point. He wanted to move him along.

“I should have never allowed her to marry that man. I should have not even considered it. But I was going to lose everything, and the Rasmussens, I owed them too. They were a good family I thought, so rich, respected. When Albert’s father approached me, it was a business deal. I did not think. I thought it was a step up, but I was wrong. I saw bruises on my daughter’s arms once and I almost killed myself.”

Gio stood back, shocked, and the old man’s words grew harsher. He was practically spitting the words out. Still he remained silent hearing the man out.

“That was about two years after Lisa married. But Celia, I could not tell her. I was mortified, and so ashamed. I am not a man. Then as Johnny grew up, and I recognized he was your son . . .”

“You knew?” Gio interrupted.

“How could I not? I watched you grow up son, and I was even more ashamed of myself.” He went on. “I never spoke my suspicions out loud. Celia, she was mad enough already at me for my gambling. To know her daughter was married to a man who beat her, had the son of her former lover, who she still yearned for, but had done this to keep a house over our heads, that was enough to bear. I could not tell her my suspicions.” The man held his hand up to his heart.

Gio was afraid the man would have a heart attack. He had to stop him. “Mr. Raphael. We all have our regrets. I have mine too. I know I wasn’t perfect. I made mistakes.” He sighed trying to think of what to say next. “I think we all need to just put the past behind us. Focus on the here and now.” He looked towards his house, where Lisa and Johnny played and laughed inside with family, and something clicked inside him. “We have all lived our lives for too long with regret. I think we need to stop regretting the past, and move on. What do you say?” he held out his hand and Mr. Raphael took it with tears in his eyes.

“Son, thank you. That would mean a lot. As many mistakes as we, I, have made, that would do my heart good. I love my daughters and my grandson. Your son. I am glad he is yours.”

“He is a fine boy. I’m glad too.”

“And son, one more thing.” He took hold of Gio’s arm once more as he was about to turn and head back inside. “You say you were not perfect, but you are. Perfect for my Lisa anyhow. I wish I had seen that earlier.”

The old man was smiling at him with tears still in his eyes. “You old fool,” Gio swiped the tears that had sprung from his own eyes, and pulled Mr. Raphael into his arms, and gave him a quick hug. The man was crying and laughing at the same time.

“Let’s get inside. I miss my family.”

“I do too, son. I do to.”

Excerpt

If she had to sleep with him one more time, she thought, she would do it. In the intensity of the moment her heart raced. She felt Nikko sink to the bed behind her, and then before her mind could make sense of what was happening, he hauled her to him. She was over his knees and he had panties down, and without warning, he struck. He was spanking her. Hard! He had meant it.

“Ow,” she yelled.

“Don’t scream,” he threatened. “And, that was for drugging me,” he breathed. She began to struggle.

“Oh, no you don’t,” she cried out after the initial shock from the first strike had passed. His arm lay over her back like iron pinning her to him.

Whack, came his hand again. “That was for the barbecue sauce.”

“Ouch, Nikko, please,” she begged as her other ass cheek flamed from the intensity of the slap he gave her. She continued to struggle, but kept her voice down despite the pain and humiliation.

Whack! “That was for stealing my car,” he breathed as she cried out his name softly begging him to stop. The force of the blow took her air for a moment.

Again, his hand descended. “This was for making me worry.” She gasped and cried and took it.

Whack! “This is because I care god dammit,” and he hit her again with all the ferocity he thought she could handle. Her cheeks were on fire. She jumped each time he hit her, and by the sixth and final strike, she was crying and lay in a heap over his legs.

He slowly turned her over, and the tears he saw there were genuine. “Look at me, Ronnie,” he whispered softly, brushing the hair out of her face. She looked at him sadly, the tears streaking down her beautiful face. His eyes lost their anger, she noticed even though she couldn’t meet his gaze for long. His tone softened. “Ronnie. You deserved that.” She sniffled and nodded.

She couldn’t look at him still. She did. She knew it. His hand began to stroke her back, and still she could not meet his eyes. Guilt overwhelmed her. But when his lips brushed her shoulder, she turned and saw something strange and startling there in his eyes. She couldn’t look away if she tried.

“And that was because I fucking love you, Ronnie. God help me, but I do. I came because of that, and I was scared to death you were going to get hurt. Not for my brothers, not for the money. I came because the woman I love was putting herself in danger.” He saw her eyes go from pain to shock to surprise. He had one more thing to say. “Ronnie, baby, please believe me. I never slept with that woman.”

She saw stark, bleak desperation in his eyes. Could it be? Ronnie ran the gamut of emotions. His words. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She saw his eyes, and more than his words, she saw the honesty there. Suddenly, she didn’t feel the pain his hand evoked, and she reached her hand up to touch his face, as a single tear formed in his eye. She swallowed. He watched her.

“I . . . believe you,” she whispered. She did. But she couldn’t find the words to express what she was feeling. Her shock was just that great.

His lips descended and the kiss they shared said it all. Ronnie grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him down with her to the bed. This time what they did wasn’t fast, and even though it felt like their time was running out, he wanted to show her with more than words just how much he loved her. And she let him.
