Release Blitz ~ Sweet Rivalry, 1001 Dark Nights, by K. Bromberg

SWEET RIVALRY - RDL banner

Sweet Rivalry
By K. Bromberg
Release Day: Feb 28, 2017

Ryder Rodgers had a plan.

He was going to stride into the conference room, do the required song and dance over the next five days, and win the biggest contract of his career. But when he walked in and heard the voice of one of his competitors, all his plans were shot to hell.

Harper Denton. She was always on top. In college. First in their class. Always using every advantage to edge him out to win the coveted positions. The only one who could beat him. His academic rival. More like a constant thorn in his side. And his ego’s.

When he heard her voice, he was brought back to years before. To the bitter taste of being second best. But the woman who meets his gaze is nothing like the drab wallflower he used to know. Hell no. She was all woman now: curves, confidence, and staggering sex appeal. And no doubt, still brilliant.

The fact that she’s gorgeous and bright won’t distract him. This time, Ryder’s determined to be the one on top. But not if Harper can help it.

Excerpt

Work first. Reward sex next.

That’ll give me something to look forward to during the next few days. The ones I can’t wait to dive headfirst into that will be an ever-changing combination of stress, exhaustion, strategy, and manipulation. An unscripted dance amongst us bidders while we size each other up, calculate our numbers, and explain to the developer why we’re the most valuable candidate for the job.

It’s the game I love. The competition I thrive on. My return to the job that I’ve been desperate to make.

And there’d be no better way to make a statement that Harper Denton is back than to leave this building with the multimillion dollar contract for Meteor Development tucked securely under my arm.

And just like that, as a reward for my positive thinking, when I look up, there he is, in full view.

I take in the expensive briefcase, the venti Starbucks, and the expensive watch peeking out from beneath the cuff of his shirt. And just my luck that while I’m afforded a full view of his body, the one thing I’m the most curious about is obscured by his hand holding his cell phone up to his ear: his face.

So instead I drink him in. He really is magnificent. I note his posture and the way he carries his body when he moves forward a few steps. There’s an air about him that says he’s no-nonsense and in control, powerful, and at the same time he doesn’t seem uptight. He has that Southern

California professional vibe. I can’t put my finger on it but he reminds me of someone I can’t quite place. Regardless, a man who can pull off being in control and playful has definite merits.

Like “spank me until my body aches in want, and then make a game of hitting each erogenous zone with his tongue before he’ll satisfy that ache he created and let me come” type of merits.

The mind-blowing-sex reward just became even more appealing.

What The Reviewers Are Saying

K. Bromberg did such an amazing job with the chemistry between Ryder and Harper - hostile and flirty at first. Then all passionate kisses, steamy office sex, and sweet romance. What Ryder did at the end was totally swoony. ~ AC Book Blog (Anne Christine)

I need more of this sweet rivalry! This novel was fraught with sexual tension. The banter between Ryder and Harper was outstanding and I couldn't get enough! ~ Joy

Sweet Rivalry is a steamy and stirring second-chance romance that burns in all the right places! This story was insta-love!!! ~ Karen Mc ~ *Bookalicious Babes Blog*

I loved the plot, the characters and the out-of-this-world sex scenes! I loved Ryder’s trust in Harper, how he fights for what is right and I always love having strong heroines. ~ Alba and Her Secrets..♥

Ryder is a classic hero with chiseled features, a hot beard, and black-rimmed glasses. All of that is great, but what I totally loved was his heart of gold. That’s what made this novella a winner for me. ~ Bex (Night Owl Reader)

Sweet Rivalry was such a fantastic novella. The story line was brilliant and so funny and I absolutely loved the main characters. ~ The Hopeless Romantics Book Blog

Excerpt

“Have you heard of the term ‘first world problems’? You have Google on your phone, Reece, best get acquainted with it. Man has been doing things for himself for a long time, I guess this is the way of natural selection, who can figure things out and who can’t—”

Running my hand through my hair, I grip the phone tighter. “You know I only use my phone to ring, text and porn.”

“Good God, I’ll send someone around in a week, no doubt you will be dead from starvation or masturbatory dehydration.”

I hold the phone away from my ear and yell, “Laugh it up chuckles. You’ll see. I don’t need any fucking help.”

***

I need help.

I’ve walked for ten minutes, and all I’ve passed is more suburbia. I’m sure I’ve seen this same house three times. I’m ashamed to say that I’m pretty useless with my sense of direction. I can get lost just turning in a circle. The first five minutes of walking was hell. I started to sweat. My pants were clinging to my legs, and the rank stale odour of my body was blowing up wind.

The longest I’ve had to walk was from the door of the hotel to my waiting car on the street, or from the tarmac to the airport. I don’t include the hours across the stage a night. That was fun. This is as boring as bat shit. I don’t have headphones, I don’t have a car, and I don’t have a driver. I don’t have anything that I took for granted.

The houses are all blending in, and I don’t know which one’s mine. I’m waiting for David to text me the address, but I know he’s taking the piss. Bastard. Teasing me about first world problems. I know I sound like a whiny little bitch, but my life is in stark contrast to what it was forty-eight hours ago, and I’m struggling to adjust.

Author Bio

Josephine Traynor is very good at keeping secrets - she’s been a closeted writer for years but only got brave enough last year to show her writer friend a small chunk of what she’d written.

She’s a mother of two small boys and only told her husband about her book when it was completed. God knows what he thought she was doing on the computer for all those hours!

Josephine’s a lover of tea and has a thing for all things vanilla. She loves a good book that makes her laugh and has heaps of character growth. Her aim is to write books that inspire, cause sore stomach muscles and have memorable characters for all the right reasons.

Josephine Traynor is not her real name. The pen name is derived from Josephine being her favourite girls name and Traynor is inspired by Will Traynor from Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. His message from that book was for everyone to be brave in this world and to make their mark. This was a huge lesson for her to get over her fear of publishing. She’s doing this for her, her dream is to be a published author, what’s your dream and go after it.

Blurb

When faced with broken love…

Have you ever had the feeling you were a stranger?
Out of reach, I watched and mourned me.
Nothing moved. Breathed. Nothing lived.
I was in an alternate universe.
No longer an innocent.
I had blood on my hands, and I wasn’t even sorry for it.
I was only afraid for Keiran.
Of his reaction when the shock wore off.
It would be an explosion.
Of hurt, anger, and mistrust.
He’d know I lied.
And to him…
The betrayal born of my good intentions is worse than the act of murder.

…will you succumb to fear…

She was supposed to be my light.
The one who saved me from the monster.
But when I looked in her eyes that day, I didn’t see her.
I only saw my father’s killer.

Her love saved me from the monster.
Mine turned her into one.

…or will you be fearless?

“A Physical Reminder”

Derek

The cottage is dark when I arrive at 6 a.m. Elaine is the only one with an early wake-up call, so it’s possible I can get into Melissa’s room before they’re up and stirring. Driving all night might not have been the most restful approach, but with the energy surging through my chest, I knew I wouldn’t get any sleep anyway. I’ll nap a few hours this morning and be ready to go without losing a day.

Dropping my duffel by the stainless fridge inside, I ease off my boots and place them one at a time by the door doing my best to keep quiet. Grabbing a water bottle, I head to Melissa’s bedroom, but I nearly slam it against the skull of a half-dressed Patrick. He’s right around the corner, holding a wooden baseball bat high, like he’s about to use my head for the winning homer in the World Series.

“SHIT!” we both whisper-shout.

“What the fuck?” Patrick lowers the bat and breathes.

I recognize the energy surging through his muscles. It matches the rapid tweaking of my own, and I need a second to recover.

“You could’ve shot me a text,” he groans, dropping onto the couch. “Did you fucking drive all night?”

“Couldn’t sleep.” I clap his shoulder as I pass. “Glad to see you’re on your toes. You’re officially off guard duty.”

“Hey!” I pause, and he tosses me the bat. “Happy to help. I’m going back to bed.”

Catching his “weapon,” my brow lines. “Think you’ll be able to sleep?”

“Nope.” That grin spreads across his face. It’s the same one that used to tick me off because I knew it meant I’d be cleaning up his shit sooner rather than later.

“Just keep it down. I don’t need to hear you getting any.”

He points back at me as he heads down the hall. “Right back atcha.”

Shaking my head, I turn Melissa’s bedroom door handle as softly as possible. Unlike my younger partner, I don’t plan to wake her this early. I know the pregnancy makes her tired, and I’ll be content to be beside her. It’ll be the first good rest I’ve had in four days, knowing she’s with me and safe.

She’s curled in her familiar sleeping position, and I can’t help a smile as the warmth of love fills me. I will never get tired of watching this woman sleep.

Jeans off, I whip the thin, navy sweater I’m wearing over my head and slip into her king-sized bed. She doesn’t even stir, and I’m happy she feels so secure with Patrick in the house. He might have been a pain in my ass in the past, but he’s more than made up for it with this assignment.

Easing closer to her, I lift her long, dark waves off the pillow and replace them with my head. She makes a soft noise and stirs, but she doesn’t wake. My arm goes above her, and our bodies are so close, I can feel the warmth radiating from her ivory skin.

Wrapping a dark curl around my finger, the tension slowly drains from my body. Being with her is enough. She’s home and comfort and warmth and all the good things I thought I’d never have again. She’s my future and my desire and my love, and the notion that some dickwad might try to hurt this woman, might threaten what I cherish…

She sighs and scoots closer to me, still asleep. The idea that she knows I’m here is incredibly satisfying. My own eyes are heavy, and I lower my head.

In three breaths, I’m out.

“I’m thrilled for my sister. She deserves all the happiness life has to offer, and Anthony’s perfect for her.” Alexandra smiled, leaning against Blair’s shoulder because it was too much work to hold her head up in her drunken state.

“She looks happy. Unlike some people.” Blair drilled her finger in Alexandra’s stomach.

Alexandra swatted it away before Blair bruised something. “I’m happy. How many people do you know make junior partner when they’re thirty?” She held her arms out like an actor gesturing toward their waiting crowd.

Blair rolled her eyes, pushing Alexandra’s arms down. “There’s more to life than work. When was the last time you went on vacation? Had a date? Got laid?” Alexandra’s eyes darted toward the rearview mirror, where the cab driver was paying close attention to Blair’s latest “you need a life” round of questions.

Alexandra turned so she could maintain some semblance of privacy from the nosy cab driver. “I’m going on vacation as soon as I’m done with my upcoming trials. You know how important it is for me to make partner. And as far as dating, I don’t have time for anyone right now. Getting laid? That’s been a while.” Six months, to be exact, but Blair didn’t need to know that piece of information. And wasn’t she just a chatty Cathy after all those drinks? Those close to her knew Alexandra didn’t date but had no idea she went to the bar for a random one-night stand when she had an itch to scratch. Easier all around, but she’d been too busy for even that recently.

Blair tsked at her. “You don’t even remember, do you? The day I forget the last time I had sex is the day I hire a male escort.” Alexandra remembered, but refused to elaborate on the drunken hookup on for her twenty-ninth birthday resulting in missing panties and a walk of shame to rival her college days.

Alexandra slapped her arm. “I am not hiring a prostitute. Could you see the headlines? ‘Popular lawyer indicted for soliciting sex.’ Plus, I can get my own man; I just don’t have time.” And she refused to deal with the next guy looking at her like she was a freak—as though she were damaged somehow—because she loved having sex a lot. She just chose not to have indiscriminant sex with multiple men, she preferred one partner. And there was no partner, just her vibrator, which she’d almost worn out with overuse.

Blair didn’t answer, just stared out the window, deep in thought before addressing her. “Hey, I have an idea…”

Excerpt

“Having a good time I hope?” Ian’s gaze swept over her body and from the expression on his face, she could tell he appreciated what he saw. Too bad the handsome man was another one who wanted to make a lifetime of being a bachelor.

“It would be better if you didn’t allow married men into the club.”

Ian shrugged. “I don’t encourage it, but they are paying customers.”

“Assholes are what they are.” She finished her beverage.

“Need another? On the house after dealing with an asshole.”

She handed him her glass. “I suppose.”

“I’ll be right back.”

Jamie ran her hands through the top of her hair. Her dress was riding up slightly, and as she tugged it back into place, a shiver swept down her spine. She didn’t even have to turn around to know who stood just inches from her.

A hand met her waist. “You know what this dress does to me.”

She pulled away from him and turned to meet his gaze. “Chandler. How nice to see you.”

“It’s been awhile, hasn’t it?” He cocked an eyebrow.

Ian returned and handed her another Appletini. “I need to handle something. We’ll talk again soon, Jamie.”

She nodded then glanced back at Chandler. His hair was dark, almost black. He’d been coloring it, she could tell, because she couldn’t find a hint of gray. And at forty-eight, she’d expect to see some around the ears, at least.

“How’ve you been?” he asked.

Like he cared. She’d been his toy, that was it. She’d known it when she got involved with him; knew it would go nowhere. He’d been honest, but she’d still fallen for him. Coming here tonight had been a mistake. You didn’t just fall out of love with someone in two weeks.

Chandler reached out and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. “Please, don’t.” She couldn’t handle him touching her.

“I’ve missed you,” he whispered.

She shook her head and stepped back, needing space. “Don’t.”

“Come on, Jamie. Spend some time with me like you used to.”

Taking a deep breath, she glared at him. “I’m not a toy.”

Chandler smirked. “You sure are dressed like one.”

Is my mouth open? She sure-as-hell felt like her chin was sitting on the floor.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.” Chandler stepped toward her, but she put her hand out again.

“Don’t come anywhere near me.”

Jamie quickly spun around and marched away, bumping right into someone. Not even caring to apologize, she kept walking. Her vision was on the entrance to this place and exiting it as quickly as she could.

“Leaving so soon?” the bouncer asked.

“Yeah, nothing but creeps here tonight.” The cool air soothed her over-heated body as she hurried to her car.

Review

Let's be honest, when you get a warning that the hero of story starts off on the wrong foot at the beginning, you might get a little wary of actually reading the entire book. But sometimes, you have to get him the benefit of doubt and take a chance on him, to believe that he can change. You have to trust the author's ability to take a not-so-likable guy and make me the man worthy of your heart.

So when the time came to read this story, I went into it with an open mind. I admit that I had a stop a couple of time to just scream at Chandler and maybe pull out my hair. Sure Chandler older but he's got give a guy in his 20's a run for their money, sex appeal. The only problem is that he never saw him settling down or having children. So much so that he's taken steps to prevent that from ever happening. So when Jamie drops that bombshell, to say he was shocked is a bit of an understatement. And thus, his actions cause him to appear less than stellar.

Jamie has always been the strong, independent type, and now having to face this life changing event on her own only proves how strong she can be. Sure she wanted Chandler to be there, but things didn't work out that way. Even after time has passed, she still thinks about him but she won't let that get her down. She knows it's time to move on.

But of course, what's the fun in that? Fate throws them together in the most unlikely of places. Chandler is so happy to see her; she's be on his mind more and more lately. He's never forgotten her and now fate has placed her right in front of him.

Now he's more determined than ever to win her back. It's going to be tough battle, but he knows what he wants and it's a life with Jamie. Jamie wants to believe him, but too much time has passed to jump back into anything. Can she forgive his words and actions? Can she believe he's a changed man? Can she risk her heart? But more importantly, can she risk her children's heart?

Lacey had her work cut out for her, however she persevered to give us a story that is an emotional roller coaster with it's ups and down but a journey worth taking. Although Chandler is older and has money to burn, he doesn't flash it around like a snob, but is down to Earth. He's respectable, charming, caring, and about all, loyal. Jamie is someone that you want to be friends. She'll be a shoulder for you to cry on, an ear to listen to whatever you bothers you, someone to laugh with, and someone that will take you out and have a great time with. A defiant girl next door. Together they make a perfect couple. Thank you Lacey for taking the chance on Chandler.

Any fan of Lacey Wolfe would love this intriguing story. And if your new to Lacey, this is a good book to sink your teeth into. This is a well written book that any fan of romance would enjoy.
