Kissing the sexy soldier was a dare she couldn’t resist…

By-the-book event planner Beth Brannigan’s best friend dared her to kiss a cowboy. She should have said no. Instead, she said please…again and again. If her brother finds out she’s dating—okay, kissing—okay, sleeping with—one of his military buddies, he’ll kill her. Assuming he doesn’t kill his friend first.

Former Army Ranger Brick Mitchum isn’t a relationship kind of guy. But then he meets Beth and starts to wonder if maybe it’s time he settled down. She’s mysterious. Unpredictable. Curvy in every way he needs… And hiding something. He’s just got to figure out what.

All afternoon Beth found it hard to concentrate. A first.

Normally, she lived and breathed work, and took great joy in the planning and execution of events. And this one was personal. It was her best friend’s wedding.

Still, she found herself reliving those incredible kisses she’s shared with Brick at the fair. In front of Rachel.

Heat rushed into her cheeks at the thought of what they must’ve looked like devouring each other in public. At least, she’d felt devoured. And wanted. Oh man, she certainly wanted more, but she kind of always had the impression he was a bit of a Casanova.

So when he’d actually asked her out to dinner, her mind completely blanked.

“Earth to Beth.” Fingers snapped in front of her face, bringing her mind to the present and the fact it was late afternoon and they were sitting in Rachel’s kitchen, drinking iced tea. “There you are. Although, I’m pretty sure I know where you were. Back in that cowboy’s arms. You two were hot.” Rachel pulled out her phone. “See?”

She gasped. “You took a photo?” She swiped the cell from her friend’s outstretched hand then sucked in another breath at the picture of her and Brick melting into each other. “Damn.”

“I know, right? You two sure heated up that fairway. It’s a good thing Cord hadn’t shown up.”

“Oh my God.” She closed her eyes and shook her head. “Can you imagine?”

Beth knew the reason Cord had always given her dates the third degree was because he’d taken it upon himself to fill in for their father, who’d died when she was ten. But it hadn’t lessened her frustration. Even during Skype chats while on deployment he’d always inquired about her social life. Eventually Beth refrained from dating, because she didn’t want him worrying about her while he was out there putting his life in danger.

Her focus changed. She’d started working and saving money to take some online courses. Money was too tight for her to go to college, although she’d never admit it to Cord. The guy was sacrificing enough for the family, sending his checks home, never spending money or going on vacations when he was back on leave.

“The fists would’ve flown, for sure.” Rachel grinned, stirring her iced tea. “Although I don’t think it would’ve been as easy to pull this kisser off you. He was full of hard muscle, wasn’t he?”

She nodded. Brick lived up to his name. He was ripped, and she suspected, former military. The way he carried himself reminded her of her brother. Confident. Sure. And the way the sexy cowboy walked with a lethal agility made her hot and bothered. Then there was the tattoo on his arm. An eagle with other symbols she refused to look at closely and deliberately didn’t acknowledge. Last thing she needed was verbal confirmation Brick was in the military. With her luck, her brother probably knew the guy.

God…was it really wise to go out on another date?

Her gaze dropped to the photo on the phone in her hand, and her heart literally skipped a beat. Yes…yes, it was wise. And wonderful, new, and addicting.

And if she didn’t get a move on, she was going to be late.

“I’ve got to go.” She slid the phone across the table to her friend then rose to her feet to take her empty glass to the sink.

“Call me first thing tomorrow morning and let me know how it went,” Rachel said, joining her by the sink. “Or better yet, tonight if he leaves. But I hope he stays. He kind of looked like a guy with mega stamina. You could use an all-nighter.”

“Rachel!” She turned to stare at her grinning friend who had no clue how right she was about Brick’s stamina. Although he hadn’t stayed the whole night. Yet.

“What?” Rachel quirked a brow. “I know you agree. I can see it in your eyes.”

Lordy, she didn’t need her friend to see anything else. She walked to the table to grab her purse and forced memories of a naked, ripped, Brick and his mega stamina from her mind. “Talk to your fiancé about the new menu choices the caterer gave us today. And don’t forget to find out about guests with food allergies.”

“I will.” Rachel pointed to the clock on the wall. “You are officially done today. No more work. Go have fun with your sexy cowboy.”

Beth saluted her. “Yes, ma’am.”

Eight minutes later, she parked behind the hotel in front of her room, and some common sense returned with her. Seeing this guy was foolish. She wasn’t a fling kind of girl, and her life wasn’t in Braxton. She lived over two hours away.

With a sigh, she pulled her cell from her purse and brought up his number. Secret Cowboy. A smile tugged her lips. She really liked his sense of humor. Among other things.

All the more reason to hit call and cancel the date. Get out now before her heart got as involved as her body—which refused to tap the dang screen.

She was still waging the inner battle when a truck pulled in next to her and her secret cowboy unfolded from the cab.

Shoot. Too late.

Shoving the phone back in her purse, she took a deep breath and then opened the door. She’d just have to cancel in person.

“Hey, angel.” His sexy drawl sent shivers of awareness down her body, with extra emphasis on her good parts. Parts he knew how to make feel real good. “Just get back?”

She nodded, trying to find the right words and the courage to say them as he rounded his truck and drew near, looking sexier than he had a right to in a charcoal gray button-down shirt, black pants, Stetson, and boots. He’d changed. Holy crow, he looked absolutely delicious.

Didn’t matter. It was best if she said her piece. By the time she got her mouth to open, he was in front of her, cupping her face with his big hands and bringing her lips to his in a kiss that curled her toes.

I was really looking forward to this book because I loved book one in the series.

Her Secret Ranger picks up right after In A Ranger's Arms ends, and this time around we focus on Brick and Beth.

Beth is an event planner that has come to town to finalize the last minute details of her best friend's wedding. The last time she was in town she met a sexy cowboy that rocked her world, she hasn't forgotten about him but he was just a one night stand. However, when her friend dares her to kiss the next cowboy that walks in, she is pleasantly surprised to see that it's her cowboy.

Brick has been a player for as long as his friends can remember which is why he's called Romeo. He's a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy that doesn't believe in second dates. However all that changes when a green eyed stunner catches his eye.

And the more time they spend together, the more their friends take notice of the changes in them. But there is a secret that Beth is keeps that could break this new couple up for good. Or when everything is finally out in the open, can they work past their issues and build a future they both want?

Her Secret Ranger is a fun, witty, romantic and passionate book. I especially love that Brick didn't fight his feelings for Beth, even though at times he didn't know what to make of them. He knew deep down that taking the risk was better then not. I like Beth's strong, independent attitude. She's a woman that knows what she wants and isn't afraid to get dirty to get it.

The passion between the two is electric, you can feel the sparks fly off the pages. They can't keep their hands off each other, but they also have chemistry out of the bedroom as well. Their personalities. As a reader, it was easy to connect and relate to these characters.

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. I really loved seeing Stone, Jovy and Lula Belle again. I can't wait see what happens next in this sensational series. I highly recommend reading Her Secret Ranger, even if you haven't read the first book you will still enjoy it immensely.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Spoiling the Big Surprise by Cara Bristol

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Spoiling the Big Surprise
By Cara Bristol

My college boyfriend and I had only been dating for about a month when Valentine’s Day was coming up. He hinted he had a big surprise for me.

“Are you going to be home Tuesday around five o’clock?” he asked.

“Yeah, why?”

“Because that’s the time the delivery truck is coming.”

“Delivery truck?”

We’d only been going out for a month! I couldn’t imagine what he could have bought that would require a delivery truck, except that it must be too big and too expensive—and inappropriate for relationship only a month old. Rather than being pleased, I was upset, angry. We ended up getting into a fight over his mystery gift.

Valentine’s Day (Tuesday) rolled around and at 5 p.m., there was a knock on my apartment door. With trepidation, I opened the door, and there on the ground was a tiny toy truck. In the back of it was small wrapped box, which turned out to be a bottle of my favorite perfume. An entirely appropriate gift.

I’d blown it. He’d tried to surprise me, but I’d gotten mad and created drama and spoiled a romantic and appropriate gesture.

Janelle, the heroine of Wife on the Lam in Domestic Discipline spoils a gift from her husband. It’s their wedding anniversary, and Janelle hints to Brent that she’d like to take an island vacation. He wants to surprise her so secretly he books the island vacation she wants, but tells her he has to work on their anniversary. Thinking he’s blown off their special day, she gets mad and runs away on vacation by herself. Brent follows her to the resort. The sparks and spanking begin!

Have you spoiled someone’s big surprise? Did you try to surprise someone else but have it ruined?

Wife on the Lam, Domestic Discipline

The only person to board so far, she sank into a seat midway down the aisle curbside, grateful for the air conditioning. After only a short jaunt from the building to the van, perspiration dampened her skin. She plucked at her cotton capris stuck to her legs. She wouldn’t need the slacks she’d packed. Just shorts, tanks — and the swimsuit. If she had the guts to wear it.

She’d bought the suit to surprise Brent before she hatched her impromptu plan. He’d always liked her ass. She sighed and lifted her hair from her nape. Should she contact him? Start damage control?

Could she call the States from Isla Island? Because Brent traveled so much they had a comprehensive cell plan. She powered up her phone. Seconds later a text message beeped through. Her hand shook as she recognized Brent’s number.

Can’t believe U did this. Where R U?

She texted him back. Cabana Resort, Isla Island. I’m sorry.

She widened her eyes when seconds later a response popped up. He must have been waiting for her message. She could imagine his fury. Fortunately she was hundreds of miles away. Of course, if she hadn’t been hundreds of miles away, he wouldn’t be mad. With any hope, he’d cool off some by the end of the week. Or would he be angrier by then?

U R in so much trouble. B there Thurs.

Did that mean what it sounded like? She gulped. U R coming here?

Yes. We’ll talk.

Talk was often a euphemism, but of course she wanted him to join her. Her heartfelt wish had been for her and Brent to take the trip together. And she was ninety-nine percent sure he wouldn’t spank her at a resort.

Little does she know….

"So, cowboy." Angie set her beer bottle down. "You're halfway done with that drink and you've managed to sit with me the whole time. Now tell me about the broken heart you're still mending."

Nathan rolled his drink between his hands. "Nothing to tell."

"Quit the bullshit. Do I look like her? Remind you of her? What?" She sat back in her chair and crossed her arms. "There is some reason you dislike me."

You make me feel things. Not to mention, in some ways, her features were similar to his ex, like her long, dark hair. "I don't know what you're talking about."

She ran a hand through her hair. "Well, whoever she was, get over it."

"Why do you care so much?" He lifted the bottle to his lips, but didn't drink. "You don't know me, I don't know you. Why do you care if I've got a broken heart?"

"Because you're taking it out on me."

He shook his head and finished the beer. That was his last one for the evening. He stared at Angie. She had a point that he'd been rude to her on numerous occasions, but he hadn't intentionally meant to hurt her feelings. "I apologize."

She smiled, her red lips parting. She had one of those contagious grins, because he felt his spread across his face.

"Now that is sexy. I can see why the girls would fall for you." She winked.

"What?"

She leaned forward, and he caught a glimpse down her shirt again. "Your smile. It could make a woman fall to her knees."

I want you on your knees. He wasn't sure how to respond.

"Now that you're in a better mood, want to tell me how I can make you like me?"

There was nothing she needed to do. He liked her plenty. "I don't have an issue with you."

She shrugged and stood. "Okay, whatever." She rubbed his shoulder. "I'm going to find me a handsome man to dance with."

He grabbed her wrist and she stared back at him.

"What? Did you want to be that handsome man?" She tried to look innocent, but the tease knew what she did to him.

Yes, yes he did. He wanted to take her on that dance floor and mold her body to his and let everyone in this place know she was off limits. "Nah, I'm heading out. Just be careful. Some of these guys think dancing should lead to other things."

She raised an eyebrow. "Good to know." She moved close to his ear. "I am looking for a good time."

Something tore loose in Nathan and he stood, pulling her against him. Without another thought, he claimed her lips. She went still in his arms, but then, as he expected, she grabbed hold of him and thrust her tongue in. The taste of beer met his senses and he laced a hand around her neck. She moaned as she lifted up on her toes to make the kiss deeper.

Review

What a great story this is! As a fan of Lacey, I have been impatiently waiting for this second installment of the Carver Ranch Series. I knew I was going to like Nathan's story, but I really loved it.

Nathan is defiantly a cowboy that I could love. The way he loves, with all his heart, is endearing. Angie is strong and independent, a women that goes after what she wants. Together, they are force to be reckoned with.

Their instant attraction and sexy banter heat up the pages; the story captures the readers from the start until the end. The appearances of Tucker, Lauren and the other Carver family members were an added bonus.

I am loving the Carver brothers and can't wait until the next installment of this series. Lacey's storytelling is amazing and look forward to her upcoming projects.

Lauren stared at the papers in front of her, but none of it registered. All she could focus on was the half naked man. The hot, sweaty, tanned man who was now naked in his shower only feet away from her.

She shook her head and rubbed her thighs. Enough. It wasn't like Tucker was the first sexy man she'd seen. She wasn't blind or innocent, but something about him got her panties moist quick. Hopefully, she could make it through this accounting meeting without ripping her own clothes off and offering herself up to him. She had no doubt he would be an awesome lover. The man worked with his hands all day; surely he knew a thing or two that could please her.

Seriously, enough.

Lauren straightened her back and stared at the stack of papers he'd given her. There were receipts, printouts, and such. Tucker seemed to keep good records, so that would make things easier. She removed her computer from her bag and turned it on. After she pulled up the file for Carver Ranch, she studied it once more to familiarize herself with it.

This was a profitable ranch. Last year had been one of their roughest years, but so far, this year was already better. She was sure once she started to fill in the stuff he'd supplied her with, she'd see they'd come back strong from the previous year.

"Everything there?"

Lauren jumped in her seat.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."

Tucker, now dressed, came over and sat next to her. Whatever soap he'd used attacked her senses in a good way. How did someone get out of the shower, yet still smell like fresh cut pines?

She shouldn't do it, but she did anyway. She let her gaze wander over his body. The black t-shirt he wore hugged his wide chest, letting her get the full view of his muscles.

Lauren looked away quickly. "Yeah, I think this is it." She flipped through the stack. "You're free to do whatever while I do this. I know you've got a lot to do."

"Can I get you something to drink?" He stood, and her focus went straight to his crotch.

Oh God. She glanced up quick to see him smirking. The man knew he was sex on a stick with his sandy blond hair and blue eyes. "Do you have some tea?"

"Sweet?"

"Uh, yeah."

He winked. "I'll be back."

"Take your time." The farther away he was, the more she could concentrate on her work. She wasn't sure what had come over her, but the sooner she got done with this job, the better. Then she wouldn't have to see him again until next quarter.
