Blurb

No amount of braking will stop this payback from crashing and burning.

Racecar driver Lark Stevens agrees to help a close friend prove that paybacks can be a bitch. What she doesn’t expect is to fall in lust with her mark.

Set on her mission, Lark assumes the mystery man who amps up the heat and pushes her heart into overdrive is her intended target. And once they connect, getting even is the last thing on her mind.
As the heat smolders and revs from zero to sixty in mere seconds, Lark realizes she's on a crash course of emotion that no amount of braking will stop.

Warning:  No-holds-barred sexual teasing, dances meant to titillate and push you over the edge, and M/F love scenes to get engines revving.

5 out of 5 Stars ~ “It’s quick. It’s dirty. It’s satisfying.” Author SJ Maylee
5 out of 5 Stars ~~ “…a quick, hot read that will get your motor running.” Leisha, Goodreads

Excerpt

A harsh moan reached her ears.

Encouraged, adrenaline pumping through her, Lark moved backward. Confidence and courage kept her moving until her knees bracketed his.

Hands on his thighs, she sat on his lap. Her hips were undulating, and his hard shaft nudged her on each thrust.

Her pulse increased. Electricity sparked along her skin, burning hotter with each bump against her ass.

She played with fire and temptation, grinding down harder. Any other time, she’d be able to separate her mind and body and eliminate any bit of lust for a stranger. But this time, this man … it was different. More tense, enthralling, and intoxicating.

Desperate to get her mind back in the game, Lark tried to stand, but he clasped her in place. She reached back and held tight to his wrists. Neither moved, gazes locked, their heavy breathing heard over the music. They stayed that way for what seemed like an eternity.

Swirls of need circled in the darkness of his ocean-blue eyes, and her chest hurt. She couldn’t breathe, unable to move. What would he do next? She wasn’t the kind of girl to wait on a man, never had been.

But the electricity between them, the hunger needling its way through her, and desperation making her breathe hard, it all scared her. He had her forgetting her purpose being there, and hell, she scarcely knew of her own name right now. She shuddered. It was difficult to put the brakes on her body’s needs.

She released his wrists and glared at him, warning him to let her go. His brow knitted, but he complied with her wishes. Free from his grasp, she rose. She was the one in control, not him. It was best to remember that. Best he remembered that.

With a pivot, she faced him, inched between his knees, and stroked her thighs. He scrutinized her every movement. His deep breathing encouraged her to continue.

Lark skimmed her fingers over the V of her thong, over her navel and under the curve of her breasts. She enjoyed the asset of having a D-cup chest.

Her tits felt restrained against the binding of the lace, but she’d never discard her bra or panties when putting on a show like this. But damn if she didn’t want to right now. The demand to have her way with him nagged at her.

Lark loved the sensitivity of her nipples. She’d often make herself come from pinching and pulling on them, and she very much enjoyed pushing them up high enough to lick them herself. But she’d rather have a man do it for her.

This man, to be precise.

Review

What's hotter than a woman who takes charge? Now much when it comes to Lark.

She's a woman that is sexy inside and out, and isn't afraid to use it her advantage. So when a friend calls asking for a favor, she jumps at the chance. But what was supposed to quick and easy, turns into something she never expected.

The passion explodes, desires escalates, and inhibitions obliterate.

If you are looking for a quick, sensual, exhilarating read, than Payback's A Bitch is just want you need. But be warned, things get hot real quick, so a ice cold bath will be needed when you finish this titillating tale.

Leanne finished tying the strap of her bikini top, stomach rioting with butterflies, a permanent grin on her face.

Oh, you besotted fool. Chill the fuck out.

In the bathroom mirror, she scrutinized the red bikini and the small stretch marks across her tummy that she still loved because they reminded her of Beau. She cringed at the darker and more prevalent marks across her hips and over her ass. Not the perfect markings a man might want his lover to have.

What the hell. Jay hadn’t minded them last night, and she didn’t want to dwell on them now. He’d promised lighthearted fun and having a good time. Those were two things she needed in her life right now. Thoughts of tomorrow, a week away or six months down the road, weren’t to be discussed or pondered. The here and now was what mattered.

And what woman in their right mind wouldn’t love to have one of the hottest and sexiest models on her arm wherever she went? Leanne laughed, a foreign sound to her, but happiness bloomed inside her.

After admiring herself once more, she turned the doorknob and strode into the living room. Jay’s eyes lit up seeing her. Her breath caught in her throat as his gaze darkened and heat arced its way through the air, surrounding her. Body tingling, she lifted the sundress in her hands and drew it over her head. While she didn’t mind his eyes following her, or lounging on a beach, there was no way she’d stroll through the hotel on full display for everyone to see.

“Damn, had to cover that glorious skin, didn’t you?” Jay wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her lips.

“The hotel guests won’t want to see me half-naked, thank you very much.” She grinned up at him, her fingers brushing his chin. “As much as I love you looking at me, I’m not that adventurous.”

“Hm.” He hauled her in tight. So tight, the hardness in his shorts poked against her. She smiled, thrilled she had such an effect on him. “Yes. Good idea. But my reasons are selfish. I don’t want other men setting eyes on your hot bod.” He slid his hands down her spine and cupped her ass. “I claim it as all mine.”

She kissed his chin, loving the fun and his sexy words, then stepped back. “Well, a man has never claimed me like that. I kinda love it.” She winked, grabbed her shoulder bag off the hook, and strode to the door.

Jay followed close behind. He slung an arm over her shoulder as they walked to the elevator and kissed her cheek. “I need to stop in my room, change, and grab beach stuff.”

Leanne pressed the down button and nodded. “Why don’t I meet you in the lobby? I’d like to grab water and snacks, unless you need a huge breakfast? Or a few snacks from the kitchen?”

He led her into the elevator when the doors opened and pressed the button for the third floor. “Sounds great. I shouldn’t be long. Just make sure you’re waiting for me, woman.”

Leanne snickered as he backed her into the wall and crowded against her. Her nipples tightened behind her bathing suit, and it almost hurt to breathe. It was as if her body were on fire, stoked and raring to go, and his touch was nearly too much while it soothed her deep.

“I’ll definitely be waiting for you,” she said breathlessly.

Jay groaned and lowered his head to claim her lips. She gripped his biceps as he took her into the decadent abyss of his taste and passion. As though they’d never spent last night making love, her body strained against his; she was more than eager to be with him again. The image of her climbing his body with her legs, settling around his hips, invaded her thoughts.

Leanne clutched his shirt in her fists, desperate to keep him this close as he swirled his tongue inside her mouth, giving all his passion to her. The walls of her pussy clenched. Maybe they should go back to her room for a few hours. Urgency filled her and made her want to sate herself in everything he had to give. Who was she kidding? Even a few hours wouldn’t be enough to satisfy her.

He lifted his head, his breathing deep as he laid his forehead against the wall beside hers. “Jesus, woman, you’re going to fucking kill me. My cock’s so hard, I swear these shorts just grew two sizes too small.”

As if to convince her, his hips shifted, and the length of his dick was very noticeable.

The ding of the elevator rang loud in her ears, and Jay drew away.

He opened both arms, holding the doors apart. His lips red and swollen, he was mussed like a man well loved. Leanne grinned at him.

“Don’t look so pleased with yourself.”

She winked and glanced down at the tent in front of his shorts, then licked her lips.

Review

Is it hot in here or is it just me? Oh my goodness, Cover Me is filled with sexiness that will require a cold shower.

Jay has been smitten by his best friend's mother for as long as he can remember. So after years of pinning, Jay gets the opportunity to make a move on Leanne and he's going to put it all on the line. But can Leanne handle the age difference and be able to put her own insecurities aside to grab hold of the love Jay is offering?

I loved how Jay is determined to prove his feelings towards Leanne no matter what anyone may think. The way he tries to build up Leanne's self esteem is honorable. The passion between Jay and Leanne is electrifying.

In the end, I adore the underlining sentiments that love can come from unexpected places and age is just a number.

I recommend this quick, sensual, heart stopping read that will keep you captive until the very end.

We are excited to have Police Captain Cole Douglass with us today to talk abit about his position, his daily life, and of course the lovely woman that captured his heart.

Cole, thank you for being here with us today. What’s a day in the life of a Police Captain like?

Cole: Well, it’s mixed bag of tricks most of the time. A lot depends on the criminals out there and what politics I have to shuffle at the office. But most days it’s get up in the morning, awaken the lovely woman by my side with sweet nothings whispered in her ear, slow touches and memorable moments. I pretty much end my day the same way if possible. *grins*  A hearty breakfast is key after that, and a patience to complete each day – alive and without too much upheaval. Crime doesn’t sleep.

You mention your lovely lady who begins – and *coughs* ends the day – what is it about her that conquers you every day?

Cole: Great way to put it. She does conquer me – mind, body and soul. I’m empty without her. Even the day job pales in comparison and does little to put me at peace the way my Ali-cat does. A tender soul herself, a steel mind who takes very little from anyone, she is hell on wheels and putty in my hands too. And the like-wise occurs as well, she weakens me. In a very good way though.

Your story, in Awakenings, is pretty powerful and intense. What if she hadn’t come around, hadn’t changed her mind about accepting the love around her?

Cole: Would have sucked ass I tell ya. But she did and we’re both happy. There are still some days when clouds shadow her eyes before I walk out the door, but all in all, things are good. Love is a blessing and a curse. It makes us feel amazing and truly have a purpose but if we lose it, we have an incredible journey to work through, and try to keep from losing ourselves. Love is scary as hell when we’re partnered with someone who faces danger and criminals every day. But then again, slipping and falling on ice or slipping in the bathtub can be killers too. I believe in living life to the fullest with those you love. And never take it for granted.

You’ve recently took over as Captain of the Fifteenth Precinct. How are things going there? Have you settled in nicely?

Cole: *nods* It’s going quite well. Things are running smoothly. I still have a few bumps to tangle with – cousin of a certain someone comes to mind. But pretty good. It’s a daily grind and can be tough when there’s politics and budgets, etc., but I love it. It is a rush to see the people we help come out on the other side of darkness and tragedies. I hope to stay put for a long time.

How is Roger Fuller doing these days? My heart broke for him while reading Awakenings. How is he doing?

Cole: He’s doing well. Settling in with friends of ours. He and Alicia stay in touch many times throughout the day. I think she’s become his anchor. Everyone needs someone like that. I don’t know if he’ll ever be whole again, the pain of the past will probably always haunt him but I think it will also strengthen him into an incredible man one day. Neither Ali nor I plan to lose touch with him. He’s special. His bond with Alicia is very special. She’ll make a wonderful mother someday.

How many children do you hope to have?

Cole: *grins* As many as we can. *chuckles* Probably two or three. Will be fun trying for more.

What’s next for you and Alicia?

Cole: It’s simple. Live every day like it’s our last. Love like crazy and keep saving the world from bad guys.

Thank you for being here, Cole. Give our best to Alicia and all those at the precinct.

“Detective James, what can I do for you?” Captain Coleman Douglass leaned back in his chair and looked the detective in the eye. Deep down, Cole suspected what Ethan James was about to tell him. He didn’t relish the fact his suspicions would be confirmed, but he’d known for weeks that this night was inevitable.

He only thanked God there were no fatalities.

“Sir, I need to talk to you about Detective Knowles. It’s urgent.” “Sit down, Detective. Let me get you a cup of coffee and—”

“Thank you sir, but no,” Ethan interrupted. “I didn’t come for coffee.”

Okay, obviously this isn’t a social call. He watched Ethan draw in a deep breath, and scan the room, as if unable to meet Cole’s eyes.

“Well, all right then. Say what you have to say. What about Detective Knowles?”

Just saying her name was like pouring syrup over flapjacks. Alicia Knowles was the sugar in his coffee, the up to his down, the left to his right.

They’d first met two years ago. Both had been on vacation in Miami. Sun, sand, and surf—it had all changed his life forever. Cole had never thought his first vacation in three years would lead to love.

On his last night in Miami, he’d sat by the sand at midnight, the light from his beach house behind him reflecting over the water. On one of the benches along the boardwalk, unwilling to believe he needed to return to work, he’d listened to the breeze, the sounds and movements of the waves crashing against one another.

He wasn’t sure how long he’d sat there, lost in his own thoughts, when he felt the bench beside him shift. He’d looked over to his left and had never glanced away again.

Not the time, Cole. Not the time. Think about her later.

“I think she came back too soon.” Ethan cleared his throat. “To the job, I mean.”

To suspect it and then hear the words spoken aloud didn’t settle within Cole. He’d seen it for weeks, in the shadows beneath her eyes, watched the far-off look that settled over her face more times than he liked. He thought she might be reliving the past and the ordeal she’d gone through. Dammit, he wanted to take Parker Feeney apart with his bare hands. Too bad the bastard was already dead.

Cole’s heart had ached at the pain, sadness, and even fear on Alicia’s face too many times to count. What he wouldn’t give to be able to erase the memories from her mind.

“Christ, Ethan, sit the fuck down. I’m getting a crick in my neck.” He got up from behind his desk, and moved to the small table in the corner where the coffeemaker sat.

He filled two mugs with steaming brew, added two sugars and milk to his, then turned to Ethan. Thankful the guy had taken a seat, Cole felt sorry for him. He waited with elbows parked on his knees, head between his hands, and forlorn, as if he’d lost his best friend. “You take your coffee straight or…?”

“Straight,” Ethan mumbled.

Cole carried both mugs back to his desk, placing one in front of Ethan. He sat with mug in hand and took a satisfying drink. Time to get things out in the open. “Why do you feel Detective Knowles returned to duty too soon? What happened tonight?”

Ethan sat up, dragged both hands through his hair, and leaned his head back to stare at the ceiling. “Sir, have you ever done something that would change your life forever? Even though it would be for someone’s own good and well-being, you still hesitated because in mere hours, they could end up despising you?”

Ethan lowered his chin and stared at Cole through confused and worried eyes.

Cole’s heart went out to the guy, but he suspected Alicia had to be taken off the street. He just needed confirmation of the fact.

“Yeah, I have, but I got over it. You have to do what is best for yourself and your partner, not to mention your fellow officers who could be called out to a scene with you two. And let’s not forget the citizens on the street. There is more than just one person’s life on the line if your partner can’t handle the job and something goes awry. You can’t let it get personal. Sounds cold, but it’s a harsh world in which we live. I don’t have to tell you that.” Cole set his mug on his desk, sat back in the chair, and crossed both arms over his chest. “Tell me what happened, Ethan.”

“Sir—” Ethan began.

“Call me Cole. You should know by now I don’t stand on ceremony.” Even though he had only been with Precinct Fifteen for about sixteen weeks, he had been welcomed well by all but one detective in the division. The only one who hadn’t been as welcoming was the woman Ethan obviously needed to discuss.

After he’d replaced her father when he’d retired, Alicia’s glares and icy façade whenever he was present let Cole know she disapproved of his status. He was sure she hated him for taking her dad’s place.

Of all the critics he’d been forced to deal with since he took the new job, her opinion of him was the only one that cut him to the quick. Alicia used their work relationship as a wall between them. He couldn’t really blame her. It was one of the reasons he didn’t act upon his feelings for her, or try to rekindle the spark.

Not yet anyway.

Ethan must not know about Alicia’s discomfort with me. If he did, he might not be so quick to speak up.

She would no doubt be livid about Ethan’s recommendation to take her off the street. She’d be even more irate that Cole would sign the order.

“Yeah.” Ethan cleared his throat. “It’s been nearly six months since the night Detective Knowles was kidnapped. The first thing we saw when we got to the scene tonight was Monica Fuller gagged, her body on the ground. It was like seeing Ali, uh, Detective Knowles, as she was that night when we found her in a similar condition. Tonight, she went pale, seemed to stagger, almost as if she was confused and off balance. It shook her up so bad, she never once asked about the suspect. It was very much unlike her. Usually in a case like this, if she sees the suspect, she’s the first on foot after him.”

Ethan stared Cole in the eye. His expression was pained and a little bit sad. “She even tried to lift the body from the cement where Fuller had dragged the victim. That it was against procedure didn’t bother her.”

“If you were aware it was against protocol, why did you allow her to get that close to the victim, Detective James?” Cole had a pretty good idea why, but he needed the full version of Ethan’s story before he could make the decision that was already ninety-nine percent final in his mind.

“I did it because Ali seemed so agitated. I know she was reliving what happened to her, and part of me remembered, too. What if the night we found Ali had gone differently? What if we were too late?”

A shiver ran through Cole at Ethan’s words. Just the thought of things playing out any differently chilled him to the bone.

A second chance. It’s what you have here. Remember that, Douglass.

Ethan took a deep breath and reached forward to retrieve his coffee. He took a swig of the warm liquid then continued. “I know I may have been a bit biased and in the wrong myself, Captain, to be that close, contaminating the scene. I’ll take the reprimand for it. But as soon as I got her in the car, Ali calmed down considerably. I’d hoped it would get her head back into the game, but it didn’t.”

Cole leaned back in his chair, hesitant to ask, but he had to. “What happened after you got her away from the victim?”

Ethan looked toward the window to Cole’s left, seeing what, he didn’t know. But the sorrow on his face told the whole story. Cole knew he wouldn’t like the next words.

“After the M.E. got to the scene, he was surprised to find the body had been moved slightly. He was really lit up about it and….” Ethan took a gulp of his coffee and set it back on the desk, almost sloshing the dark liquid over the rim. “I tried to explain it all to him, but he wouldn’t listen. He got loud. Before I could stop her, Detective Knowles was out of the car, angry at him for what she called callousness. Then Alicia just decked him. I have never seen her lose it like this while on the job.”

It was worse than he’d thought. Sighing, Cole picked up the yellow memo pad to his left and held it out toward Ethan. “Write it down. All of it. I’m sure the M.E. will bring this to my attention before the day is out. I’m surprised I haven’t heard about it already.”

Ethan quickly averted his eyes, without taking the pad.

Cole suspected there was more to come. He dropped the pad back on his desk. “What else happened out there, Detective? I can’t have omissions on this. I need to handle it,” Cole said, putting the weight of authority in his voice. “I need to know all of it.”

“Detective Isabella Knowles arrived on the scene. She took it over and settled the M.E. down. It was over and done with. I doubt he’ll make a complaint. Hell, he was probably just pissed off at being dragged out of bed. Or maybe being decked by a woman. I don’t know. I shouldn’t have mentioned it.”

Cole threw his pen on the desk. “Don’t make excuses, James. You know damn well these incidents have to be reported. You and Detective Knowles should not have moved the victim at all, and Knowles shouldn’t be on the job if she can’t handle it.”

“But Cole—”

“No, I’ve heard enough.” Cole tossed the memo pad toward him. Ethan caught it, but just barely. “All of it. You came to me and you can be certain I’ll take care of this matter. A citation will also be put in your folder about disturbing the victim. The only reason you aren’t suspended right now is because your record is squeaky clean. Don’t make me change my mind.”

Cole reached for the phone on his right. He’d order Alicia to his office within the next thirty minutes or he’d go get her. Rage boiled within him. It was as if a beast wanted to claw its way through him, manic to be released. He’d known she shouldn’t be back on the job. To risk her pensions, suspension, everything important to her because of her anger…. He was furious she couldn’t manage it.

It just showed how out of control she was. She couldn’t keep herself in check. But his feelings for her had shaded the truth. He was as much at fault as she was.

“Cole… damn it. I know you have to talk to her about all of this, but what consequences will she face?”

Cole’s fingers tightened on the telephone receiver. His jaw clenched. He understood Ethan’s loyalty to Alicia. Dammit, he’d walk to hell and back for her, too. She’d touched him in more ways than one the night they’d first met. He wanted more of the pleasure and the swell of emotions that consumed him when he was with her. She had made him feel ten feet tall, strong, and powerful. She’d made him feel like a man—her man.

“You know exactly what consequences your partner will face. You realized it before you came in here. While I should suspend your ass, too, I need one of you on this case that has insight into Fuller. It might take anyone new too much time to catch up. But you’re on desk duty only. Stay put in your office unless I direct you otherwise. Now, take the pad, head somewhere private, and write down everything that happened this morning. Have it on my desk in an hour.” Cole punched the numbers on the phone, angrier than he had ever been in his life. “You’re dismissed, Detective James. I’ll handle things from here.”

As the phone rang at the other end of the line, Cole watched Ethan leave his office and prayed he could keep himself from killing Alicia Knowles with his bare hands. He was in a tough spot as her boss and as someone who cared about her. But he had to stop the downhill slide her life was on before she got herself killed.

He’d see to it that she was protected.

Even from herself.

Replacing the receiver, she sighed, resigned to leave the comfort of her bed. “Got to go to work, Izzy?”

Brady’s voice came from behind her and not for the first time, Isabella wondered if he realized he used so many variants of her name. She had noticed it a lot in the last few weeks but didn’t think he did. Tonight, for some reason, it bothered her more than ever.

When he was driving into her or when they were warm and cozy, sharing a few quiet moments, he called her Bella. She found herself coming to enjoy every time the name rolled off his tongue. It was special to her but she didn’t want to dwell on why at the moment. Instead, she counted off in her head his use of Isabella.

When they were around others, coworkers or just talking in general, he used her full name. At times like this, when interrupted by her job, he used Izzy in a distant, unaffected tone. The tag was starting to grate on her nerves.

She twisted on an angle toward him, unable to keep from caressing his body with her gaze. The sheet only covered his hips and navel, leaving his abs and biceps exposed to her hungry eyes.

What I wouldn’t give for ten more minutes with him tonight.

“Umm, yeah. It was Connor. I have to go. A woman who’s been missing for thirty-six hours was found dead down by the docks.” She headed to her closet as Brady got off the bed.

“Damn. Connor suspects foul play?”

Pulling a denim shirt from her closet and a pair of jeans, Isabella turned to look at him as he grabbed his clothes. Her breath hitched as he covered his tight ass with his Jockeys and jeans. It was a shame to see such perfection hidden.

With a small shake of her head, Isabella pulled herself from her musings and reached into her top dresser drawer for panties and a bra. “Yeah. The woman’s been missing for over a day and from what he said, she’s naked.” Her hands shook as she put on her panties and willed herself to calm down and think it all through.

“Connor didn’t say much else.” Turning her back to Brady, she shook out her jeans, put both legs in and pulled them up. So lost in her thoughts and trying to get a grip on her emotions, she didn’t hear him come up behind her, until he placed his hands on her shoulders.

“Do you want me to go with you, Izzy? I’ll assist in any way I can.”

Touched beyond means by his offer, she turned in his arms. “Thanks, but no.

You know I’ve been through it all before. Don’t make it a bigger deal than it has to be. I’ve seen this kind of thing many times, over and over.”

She sounded like a bitch but couldn’t let the fact they were having sex get in the way of her job. They had an unspoken agreement, no commitments, and let one another do what they had to do, never coddling each other or making bigger issues of anything.

“I know you have, Izzy, but sometimes…. Hell, never mind. It’s cool.” She could tell by the look in his eyes he was frustrated but didn’t want to show it.

Good, let him be pissed, irritated or anything other than caring. She understood he was a man used to taking care of others, but she’d be damned before she leaned on him.

After taking her gun from where it was locked up, she clipped the holster to the waistband of her slacks and adjusted it to where she liked it. Pulling her hair back into a scrunchie, she turned to face her lover, certain she had her emotions in check. “Thanks for coming over tonight. It was, as always, the exact thing I needed.”

For just a moment, she saw an emotion—maybe anger—cross his face, but it was gone so quickly she might have imagined it.

With what looked like a forced smile to her, Brady shrugged. “Always here for you, babe, whenever you have an itch.” His voice held the cold, detachment she was coming to dislike. He grabbed up his leather jacket near the door, but stopped before crossing the threshold. He turned to her, staring at her in a way she had never seen before. “I know you won’t—seriously know you won’t—but if you happen to need me, I’m only a phone call away.”

She couldn’t even ascertain what sensations spread through her body at his words. As she watched him walk out of her bedroom, she could identify only one emotion.

Loss.

Feeling like she was on a tightrope easily broken at any moment, she shook herself of her musings as she heard the front door close. She patted her pockets and sides. Keys, badge, gun. She was ready to face the night ahead. Detective Isabella Knowles, one of Trenton’s finest, was ready to catch the bad guys.

Too bad she couldn’t allow herself to be caught. Love and the badge didn’t mix. For a few short hours she could let her hair down, let her lover drive himself into her body and fill her thoughts.
But she’d never let a man drive himself into her heart. Never.

Review

Isabella Knowles is the type of person you want to be friends with. She'll have your back and a very loyal friend. She's tough as nails and won't back down from a battle. A force to be reckoned with, to be sure.

She's been having an on again off again with a local PI, Brady Jacobs. She likes the no strings attached relationship, but he's starting to want more.

Brady isn't just a PI, he's also a seer. He's ability has helped his business and he'll assist the authorities when possible. He wasn't looking for more than what he and with Bella, but she's found a way into his heart whether she meant to or not.

Just as he's coming to terms with his feeling and attempting to convince Bella her heart wants the same, something disturbs their peaceful live.

Now they must face this danger head on, but will Bella come to terms with her feelings for Brady before it's too late?

I loved this fast paced, high action story. Brady is sexy and his ability is provacative. I love how he uses it for a good cause. Bella and Brady together are amazing. They have a sizzling connection that can't be diminished. This book is thrilling and the suspense will capture your imagination.

The the bonus short story really provided a happy ending for this fabulous couple.

My Review

Fighting for Honor may be a first for Kacey Hammell in a new genre, but within the pages, Kacey's delectable story telling is on full display.

Dominic has been away from the pack for several years following the untimely death of his beloved father. With his all encompassing sadness, he knew he couldn't be the leader the pack needed so he stepped away knowing that he would be back to take his rightful place.

Now several years have pass and while outward appearances are sunshine and roses, the pack is not what it seems. Kenneth has been up to some nefarious stuff while he's been leader of the pack in Dom's place. And word has gotten back to Dom, so now is coming back to take his rightful place, put an end to Kenneth's plans, and win the heart of the only woman he's ever loved.

But is it a little too late? Can Dom win the fight against Kenneth? Has Kenneth fooled everyone into believing him over Dom? Can Honor ever truly be his? Only time will tell and seal the fate of Dom and the pack.

This story is a quick read that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Dominic is man an a mission and not someone to be messed with. He's fiercely protective of those he loves and wants to be the man his father would be proud of. He may have been away from several years, but he hasn't been twiddling his thumbs. The things he's learned have shaped him into a well rounded man. He may have been a pretty boy when he left, but now his tall, dark, ruggedly handsome, intelligent, and sexy with a killer smile. He's the type of man you want watching your back, the man to go running through the wood with, and the man enjoying every single moment of passion with.

Whether or not your a fan of shifter book won't matter, because you'll be too engrossed in this riveting story.

She has no time for distractions and isn’t prepared for bartender Eric McKenna—the brother of her young client-to-be, Melissa. Eric challenges her on all counts, irritates her daily, and heats her body to boiling temperatures with just one touch. He’s hard to ignore and impossible to resist.

Eric McKenna will be damned if his baby sister signs any contracts with Candy Wilson. No way in hell will he allow anyone to whisk Melissa off to a foreign country and lead her on a path that’s not right for her. And yet Candy pushes him further than he’s ever been before and drives him crazy. Eric can’t control his need for her or the desire to engage with her … on so many levels.

“Hey there. It’s Eric, right?”

He stalled and pivoted. Behind him was the one person he didn’t need to see right now. Melissa had talked about her enough that he knew all he needed to about her. And some shit he hadn’t cared to.

“Ms. Wilson. Hope you’re enjoying our little town here.”

She leaned against the wall of Abe’s Diner. “Little? This place is huge. I did enjoy some shopping this morning. The market a couple blocks over has some of the nicest things. I spent way more than I should.”

He bet she did. From what she’d shown at the bar yesterday, she had more money than she really knew what to do with. In his opinion, she’d earned it all by letting it all hang out in fashion magazines for the world to see. Wearing skimpy outfits and bathing suits, which to him was too much to be taken seriously. She had the looks for sure, but he questioned her morals.

“Well, I have to get back to the bar. Nice seeing you.”

“Oh, you couldn’t spare a few minutes to have coffee with me? There are a few things I’d love to talk to you about.” She sidled closer to him, a smile lighting her face, her eyes twinkling like stars in the evening sky.

He bet she was used to getting her way all the time.

She brushed a hand over his bicep. “Just a quick coffee, and maybe a bite to eat?”

The heat from her palm rushed through him. His fingers tingled and the urge to feel her warmth around him caught him off guard. He took a step back and shook his head. Damn her for getting to him. He needed to steer clear. She would do anything to take his sister away from here, even use her wiles to do it; he’d seen her flirting with Drew yesterday.

“Sorry, I don’t have time to entertain you. You’ll have to find someone else to keep you occupied, Ms. Wilson. Have a good day.”

Eric turned and strode away. He needed to keep a watchful eye on his sister and find a way to dig himself out of the hole he was in.

Neither would be easy, though.

Not with the distraction of Candy Wilson around to battle with.

Review

A stunning woman, Candy, comes to town and walks into the town bar. She there on business but the tall drink of water standing in front of her is making her reexamine her hopes and dreams.

Eric has been running the family bar since his stepfather left it to him and his siblings. But he's set in his ways, the oldest, the leader, the protector. He's struggling to keep the bar afloat, but he'll do whatever it takes to keep his family together. The last thing he's going to let happen is to let his baby sister go off to Europe to pursue her dream of being a model.

His plan has one big flaw, Candy. Candy believes that Melissa has what it takes and she wants to sign Melissa to her new company. She believes in her so much, that's why she's here and she'll do anything for the girl that is like a sister. The tempers fly between Eric and Candy but more than there, there is a strong sexual tension between them. Seriously, the electricity between them radiates off the pages.

But like all stubborn men, Eric puts his foot in his mouth that could cause Candy running in the opposite direction and never look back.

I really loved this fast paced story. The banter between Eric and Candy is thrilling and their sensual innuendos are sizzling. With this stunningly delicious story, we also get an update on a long beloved couple. Besides, any guy that can make a dirty daiquiri is ace in my book.

There was no way she’d tell Melissa she had the hots for her oldest brother. “All is good. Is there anything I can help you with, though? I waited tables once. A lot of years ago, but I’d be happy to help.” Besides, it would get her mind off the hot-blooded male behind the bar who made her want to hop over it and take him right there. A full room of customers or not.

“No. Absolutely not. I didn’t ask you to meet me here so I could put you to work.” Melissa glanced over her shoulder when one of the customers yelled for her and raised one finger. She turned back to Candy. “Maybe we should meet tomorrow?”

Candy nodded. “Sounds good. Come by my hotel, okay? But for now,” she slid from the booth, “put me to work. What can I do?”

Melissa stood and hugged her, then pointed to the corner. “Well, I’m behind in getting out more nuts. The bowls on the bar and tables need refilling. I have enough to get some done now, but we’ll be closing in an hour and will need more. If you don’t mind, could you grab some?”

“Not at all.”

“Thank you so much. They’re on the very back wall, third shelf from the bottom.” Another customer hollered for Melissa’s attention. “Thanks again,” she said before hurrying off.

The girl was meant for bigger and better. Not that there was anything wrong with working hard for a living, but her long and lean figure, her regal neckline and great posture would be better served on a runway or in a magazine than hustling from table to table.

She strode across the room to the side door Melissa had directed her to. The door was ajar, held open with a small wooden crate. She pushed the crate inside and entered, shutting the door behind her.

“Damn it. Who let the door close? Drew, fuck, you know better.” The masculine voice from somewhere in the back startled her. Thankfully she recognized the voice or she’d have been screaming bloody murder about being locked in a room with a stranger.

“Sorry, Eric. It’s Candy. I closed the door.” She moved further into the room and around one large utility shelving unit.

“Christ, what the hell are you doing in here?”

She found him near the back wall, piling boxes of what looked like the nuts she had to find on a small cart.

“I was giving Melissa a hand.” She pointed at the item in his hand. “I was going to take them out for her, for after closing, and give her a hand.”

He snorted, set down the case and reached for another one. “I don’t think a woman like you would be into this type of work. Don’t want you breaking a nail or anything like that.”

“Oh shut up, dickhead. You’re so pompous.”

He raised his head and glared at her.

“Don’t look at me like that, either. I’m no stranger to hard work.” She scanned the room. Jesus, wasn’t there air-conditioning in this little closet? She pulled at the neckline of her scoop neck top. “Anything else I can help with?”

Eric set aside the last case and leaned against the shelf. His arms crossed over his chest, and Candy tried to ignore the bulging biceps that stood out beneath the sleeves of his grey t-shirt.

Ah, hell.

Her heart skipped and her pussy throbbed. Just when she thought she’d shoved the need for him aside, he had to go and look all manly and tasty standing there.

“I thought you were here to whisk my sister off somewhere?” She hated that he could see right through her plans. “Or are you here for a job? No longer young enough for those crazy sharks in magazines these days?”

Oh the bastard knew how to cut her to the quick. She wasn’t a washed-up has-been, but her time in the fashion and modeling limelight had come and gone. “You really need to let go of that high-and-mighty attitude. You know nothing about me. Now,” she waved her arms, “anything here need to be taken out front?”

He smirked, and she wanted to slap him. But he shrugged and pointed to the shelf above her head. “I need that red box there brought down. The blue one beside it too. They aren’t heavy, just napkins.”

She nodded and lifted her arms. In her six-inch heels it was hard to reach so high, and she widened her stance for better balance. The tips of her fingers eased the red box closer to the edge for her to grab the sides. She lowered it and set it on the stack of cases he had on the cart.

“I’m glad I can help. Melissa looked a bit frazzled out there. She is a hard worker.”

He coughed. “We all grew up working hard.”

Candy reached for the blue box and nodded. “It seems like a great family unit that you all have.” Crap, this one was a bit farther back. She felt a breeze cross her skin as her top rose, baring her midriff. She wobbled on her heels. Shit. That’s all she needed was to fall on her ass while in a skirt and look like a fool.

Warm hands suddenly circled her waist. Gasping, she drew in a deep breath and grabbed on to the shelf with both hands as he touched her.

“Easy there, darlin’. Those heels aren’t exactly made for working.” His searing breath washed over her neck. Electric currents spread along her skin, igniting and firing to life. Goddamn, goddamn.
