A Good Year

There's No Heaven....Like Hell

Faced with losing Pandora Productions as well as her best friend Rebecca to the smarmy Paul, savvy film executive Debbie makes a pact with the demon Shaker, agreeing to bind herself to him as his human master in return for killing Paul. When the intended coup goes amiss, resulting in the deaths of both Rebecca and Paul, Debbie finds herself alone at Pandora’s helm, facing a rising tide of corporate enemies led by Paul’s duplicitous son Dante and the behemoth Titan Pictures. Shaker’s backing smoothes the way, solving some problems supernaturally, others through brutal bloodshed, even as he calls into play various preternatural and human allies to assist Debbie.

As the months pass, Debbie’s strong resolve begins to crumble under the weight of her actions, even as she guiltily concedes the pleasure she finds in Shaker’s arms is becoming something more than just affection. Is there hope for a happy ending built on so much evil? Or is Debbie doomed to lose her heart as well as her soul to a demon who has only been waiting for the chance to claim both?

It takes talent on the part of an author to get me rooting for someone who's decidedly not a 'good person'. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I would recommend to anyone who likes something a little different in the way of paranormal romance and would enjoy a more mature heroine. Five Stars. ~ Caitlyn Lynch, Goodreads Reviewer

Tara Fox Hall is a writer of consummate skill. I have been following her for years and have never been disappointed. ~ Jenny Twist, Goodreads Reviewer

Excerpt

“I never asked you to kill anyone,” Debbie said defensively. “I never asked you to—”

“You asked me to save your company, and I’ve done it,” Shaker shouted, the boom of his voice shaking the room like a small earthquake. He loomed over her. “What did you think was going to happen? I’m a demon out of Hell! What did you think I would do when you unleashed me on your enemies?”

“These are human beings—”

“Who matter as much as insects splattered on a windshield,” Shaker snarled. “Humans are just another species who think that they are superior to all others…a prevalent notion in all evolved creatures. They are not.” He stared down at her. “You are not superior to me, Mistress.”

Debbie looked up at him with tear-filled eyes. “But I am human. How do I know you won’t hurt me, too, Shaker?”

“Honestly?” he said gruffly, his expression softening. “You don’t. But the same could be said of any human man you know, Mistress.” He leaned in closer, tilting his head. “And I kiss better than most.”

Debbie didn’t know what to do when the demon’s lips met hers. She leaned back involuntarily, but Shaker just leaned forward farther, his lips pressing hers. His kiss was nothing like she’d expected it to be: not brutally strong, or too hot, or even too provocative. It began as a chaste kiss; gentle, languid, warm, with just a hint of passion to come if the merest sign was given. The longer it went on, the hotter Debbie got, the urge to open her mouth growing each moment. Just as she gave in and relaxed into Shaker’s embrace, he pulled back from her, ending the kiss, his red eyes staring into hers, his desire mirroring her desire.

Bouns Scene

When Debbie introduces her demon Shaker to her best friend Sheila, she falls asleep as Shaker is beginning to answer what poses to be Sheila’s question and answer session. Yet the next morning Sheila admits that she bedded the demon because she wanted to “try before buying,” and that Shaker asserted that Debbie was okay with it. Here are the never before seen details!

Debbie fell into sleep listening to Sheila and Shaker talking.

Sheila sat up straighter, facing Shaker directly. “Tell me details of this binding.”

Shaker grinned. “What type of details did you have in mind, my lady? Or did you want your own lasting experience for supreme clarity, instead of mere words?”

Sheila’s mouth dropped open, then she quickly closed it, licking her lips. “You mean you’ll call your friend, and he’ll…”

“No,” Shaker interrupted with a sexy smile. “I am more than ready to satisfy your curiosity in all ways, my lady. I require no assistance, unless your proclivities run to multiple partners.”

Sheila sputtered out the alcohol she had been sipping.

“Ah.” His smile grew wider. “Gender is also not a barrier in our way, Sheila. I see the way you look at Debbie, that lust for the fairer softer lovemaking of a female’s making. I can easily pull in a friend who could be female for our threesome, if that is what you desire.”

“I could never do that to Debbie,” Sheila protested, looking over at her sleeping friend.

“She has never asked me for exclusivity, Sheila,” Shaker stated. “Therefore, we would be breaking no rule, nor hurting anyone.” He stood and stepped to face her, going to his knee, his taloned hands sliding up her thighs to exert gentle pressure, spreading her legs open so his torso could slide between them. “You always prefer to know exactly what you’re signing on the dotted line for. It’s a point of pride for you, that directness. This is the only way you’ll know for sure.” He began to kiss her gently on her thighs.

How can he know that? Sheila thought frantically, pushing down the immediate stirrings of lust rising within her. God, it’s been so long since I got laid…

Shaker’s tongue licked gently at the crease of her panties, eliciting a gasp from Sheila. He looked up at her with red black eyes molten as lava. “I will not go further. You must give permission.” He traced the moist cloth with the tip of one black talon. “Say the word, my lady. I kneel at your feet, ready to serve.”

Shaking with need, Sheila leaned forward and kissed Shaker, biting him lightly on the mouth. Still kissing her passionately, he gathered her up in his arms, rose to his hooves, and strode out of the room.
