About Plan B
Every tick of the clock takes something away.
Aryn Andrews is a single father doing the best he can under the circumstances.
When you meet the one you love, you plan for everything but the end—especially an end that comes too soon. After losing his wife during childbirth, Aryn vowed to be the kind of father that his daughter, Ayli, could be proud of. Every decision he makes is to ensure her happiness.
Bethany Michaelson is a victim of life.
Multiple hardships endured, Bethany never fails to find the silver lining in everything. Gracious, loyal, obedient, but above all, she is strong. All she wants is to change her inevitable fate, but in order to do that she has to be the one thing she isn’t. Brave.
Aryn has learned to accept his loss.
Bethany mourns hers every day.
How do you start over with someone who fears a new beginning?

Aryn
In an attempt to lighten our heavy moment, Bethany offers me a playful smile, and it’s… enchanting.
And this is why I need her. She makes the darkest moments bright.
If only she could see what she’s doing to me. I have a lot to thank her for, and one day I will show her how grateful I am to have found her.
Around Bethany, I’m reminded of who I used to be, of what it feels like to fight for what I want. I’ve been waiting for this, for someone to come along and force me to want again.
I’ve been waiting for her.
“I forgive you… I guess.” Her smile broadens, and my heart swells. “You seem kind of desperate. I wouldn’t want you getting on your knees and begging for my forgiveness or anything,” she jokes.
Desperate, the word echoes in my head. She has no idea just how right she is.
My eyes remain glued to her smile, while my feet move of their own accord, bringing me closer to her. Like a moth to a flame, I’m drawn to those luscious lips. Always pouting at me, tantalizing me.
“I would.” I stop a safe distance away and force myself to meet her eyes again. “If that’s what it’ll take to earn it, I will.”
“Don’t ever get on your knees for anyone, Aryn. No one is worth that.”
“I am not prepared to lose you, Beth. I don’t think I’ll ever be. You would be worth it.”
Bethany’s eyes search mine, no doubt trying to decipher the true meaning behind my words. I don’t know how much clearer I could have been. None of that was subtle.
She loves books so much, I’m a pretty fucking open one, but she needs to want to read me.
If only she’d focus more on accepting me rather than rejecting me all the time.
Hope balloons in my chest when her gaze flits toward my mouth. A momentary glance, but I managed to catch it in time.
She’s wondering what a kiss from me will feel like, and I’m more than happy to oblige.
Just as I take another step forward, there’s a knock at her door.
Sweet tits on a unicorn fairy, I was so fucking close!
Clearing her throat, Bethany tears her gaze from mine and glances down at the clean floor. “Is it safe to come down now?”
Fighting every violent urge I have to demolish the son of a bitch on the other side, I smack a smile on my face. “Yea, come here.” I hold my hands out and wave her forward, and she scoots toward the edge.
The distance from counter to floor isn’t great enough to make this necessary; I’m just looking for an excuse to touch her.
I lift Bethany off the counter, holding her gaze steadily with mine as I lower her gently to her feet.
Desiring nothing more than to pick up where we left off, my eyes fall to her lips, mere inches from mine, and now all I can think about is how amazing our first kiss will be.
My fingers tighten their grip around her waist as I imagine how sweet that bottom lip of hers will taste, how soft it will feel against my tongue…
Two more knocks at the door rips through my trance, shredding our little moment to pieces. Again.
Death to the bastard on the other side.
I’m going to kill him.
