In the game of basketball Jayson Williams definitely knows how to play to win. With the same dedication he shows to the game, Jayson is focused on winning one more thing before leaving Paradise Cove, the heart of Brooke Thomas.
However, that’s easier said than done. Brooke has become a master at playing defense when it comes to Jayson’s attempts to win her over. He might be a superstar on the court but when it comes to love, he’s a rookie. And he needs a whole new game plan.
Brooke doesn’t have a clear vision of her future but when Jayson’s presence in her life seems to be unavoidable, she is thrown completely off. Her mind and heart are at odds with each other when it comes to the charms of Jayson.
Somehow the one person she wanted nothing to do with becomes more important to her than she could ever imagine.
As both Jayson and Brooke learn how to fight for what they want, life keeps testing the strength of their bond.
Their love is fought hard for but Brooke and Jayson soon realize they will have to fight even harder to keep it.

“Brooke why don’t you like me?”
She shook her head, “I don’t even know you Jayson. Not really anyway.”
“Get to know me then.”
“What are you trying to pull exactly?” Brooke shot back defensively.
“Nothing at all! I’m being serious. I really just want you to give me a chance, get to know me. Please?”
“Look Jayson, it’s late. I have to walk home tonight.”
He nodded, “Yeah I know. Maybe I could walk you home? I can make sure you get there safe and you can start to get to know me. That’s like a two for one package deal.”
He smiled at her and he could see the moment her resistance cracked.
She smiled, “You are persistent!”
“My mom would’ve chosen the word stubborn, however I like to think of myself as dedicated . . .”
“Or exasperating . . .” Brooke laughed.
“Unyielding, relentless, adamant, or even tenacious but usually only when I want something badly.” He fixed his eyes on her and instantly she looked away blushing.
“Someone has been practicing SAT vocabulary.”
“I follow my tutor’s orders. So am I walking you home? Or am I walking behind you the whole way? Either way I have to make sure you get home safely.”
Brooke went to work on her bottom lip, something Jayson had begun to realize meant that she was thinking about something that made her nervous.
“Yes. You can walk me home but only because I don’t want to get kidnapped or anything.”
“Good thinking.”
