Name Before the Masses Tour & Giveaway ~ Behind The Door, Hidden Motives #1, by A. Gavazzoni

Behind The Door
Hidden Motives, Book 1
by A. Gavazzoni
Genre: Psychological and Erotic Thriller

Blurb

When Lara dies at the hands of a Manhattan lawyer during a sex game, his defense attorney, Carl, hires Simone, a psychiatrist, professor and author of books on sexual behavior to help him buttress his argument that Lara’s death was accidental. To help his defense, Carl’s client has written a detailed account of his steamy, year-long relationship with Lara. Carl gives the text to Simone for analysis. While evaluating the presumed killer’s writing, Simone continues to receive psychiatric patients with sexual disorders and unusual fantasies, and to research strange sexual behavior for her next book. Meanwhile, Simone’s clinical partner, friend and research colleague, Edward, is working with the police to capture a serial killer who is torturing and killing women. From hot and unusual sex and interesting psychiatric patients, to the swing houses of New York and Paris, this fast-paced page-turner is a blend of mystery, suspense, humor, romance and erotica.

Excerpt

“Does that mean you’d like me to stop bothering you?”

“No. It means I don’t have answers to the questions I know you have.”

Aha. So she knew I had questions, I thought ironically. “And what questions do I have?”

“Why won’t she do it in bed? Why won’t she answer the phone? Why does she disappear? Why can’t we spend more time together? Why did she sneak out of my bed? Why was she mean to her mother?”

How nice. The lady possessed awareness of her own behavior.

“And what…possibly…might the answers be?”

“I don’t have any. I just live, Mark. I don’t plan. You, on the contrary, seem to do nothing but plan. But maybe I’m wrong. We hardly know each other.”

“And you don’t want to know more.”

“But I do… No, I don’t… I don’t have an answer for that either. I get all mixed up around you. There’s a sweetness about you that disconcerts me. I’m used to rough stuff…to people jumping all over each other. You’re kind. You’re nice. You’re polite. I don’t know what to do with you.”

“But you know what to do with the guy you were with yesterday.” I thought she’d claim he was just a friend, or rather, they were only good friends.

“Yes. With him, I know. We want the same thing. To have fun and that’s that. You want more. I feel that in you.”

“Then give me more!”

There it went. There went my pride down the drain. I did want more. I didn’t want any more fucking games!

“I can’t do that. It’s not in me. But I like being with you. I always come back for more. I just can’t handle getting close.”

“Then learn. You’re a very intelligent woman.”

“I am.” She laughed sadly “But I’m too rational. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not cold. It’s just way too much for me. When I get emotional things get out of control.”

“And you like to have control.”

“I need it for my sanity. Mark, I’m thirty-five years old. They haven’t been thirty-five years of roses.”

“I’ll never hurt you,” I said.

Strong women and Behind The Door

Simone is one of the main female characters in Behind The Door. She is a strong and successful, forty-year-old psychiatrist, professor, and mother. Lara is an architect, independent and successful.

I created those characters based on some wonderful women I know. These ladies are beautiful, intelligent, independent, and looking for love.

I always ask to myself why such women are alone. Why they can’t find “the one”, and the answer is simple—they live life their way. They fought hard to succeed in their careers, to have good jobs, to create their own history, and they are not going to settle for someone just so they don’t have to sleep alone. They want a person to complete them, to add to their lives.

Those women are not looking for a man who will support them financially or who will demand to become the center of their lives; they are looking for someone to share their success and to share an emotional connection. It’s as simple as that.

On the other hand, I’ve seen the way some men react when they meet this kind of woman. While some men love a strong, independent woman, others become frightened or intimidated. They cannot understand or relate to her self-determining lifestyle and her objectives in a relationship.

I wanted to provide an inside look at this kind of woman’s life.

Writing Simone and Lara was a pleasure and also a tribute to all the modern females I know—my friends, cousins, and all the strong women of the world who struggle to be happy, doing the best they can in all corners of their lives. I’m proud of you all!
