Walk the Edge - cover

One moment of recklessness will change their worlds

Smart. Responsible. That's seventeen-year-old Breanna's role in her large family, and heaven forbid she put a toe out of line. Until one night of shockingly un-Breanna-like behavior puts her into a vicious cyberbully's line of fire—and brings fellow senior Thomas "Razor" Turner into her life.

Razor lives for the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, and good girls like Breanna just don't belong. But when he learns she's being blackmailed over a compromising picture of the two of them—a picture that turns one unexpected and beautiful moment into ugliness—he knows it's time to step outside the rules.

And so they make a pact: he'll help her track down her blackmailer, and in return she'll help him seek answers to the mystery that's haunted him—one that not even his club brothers have been willing to discuss. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. And suddenly they're both walking the edge of discovering who they really are, what they want, and where they're going from here.

“This is going to be the best night of our lives,” announces Reagan. Addison sits at the desk in front of me and Reagan’s to the left of Addison.

I check the clock on the wall over our English teacher’s desk. In exactly two minutes, the bell will ring and the first day of my senior year will begin. It’s not only the first day of school, but also the first Friday of the school year.

Three years ago, Addison, Reagan, and I promised we’d do something crazy on the first Friday of our senior year. After notifying High Grove that I declined their scholarship, crazy is exactly what I need. “Are you sure your parents aren’t going to check on us?”

“Trust me, everything will be golden.” Reagan uses the camera on her phone to fix stray pieces of her dirty blond hair. She curled it this morning and much to her displeasure the curls are falling out. “Has Cass started following you yet? I told her you created a Bragger account.”

I sigh and Addison scowls. She’s less than thrilled with my lack of excitement. I currently have twenty-five followers. It’s better than none, but not nearly reaching Addison and Reagan’s totals. Not sure how this whole social media thing is supposed to be fun. It’s like being back in elementary school and waiting to be picked for kickball.

“To gain followers you must post something.” Addison has this teacher to pupil reprimand going on, and it’s scary on her. “Don’t make me start posting for you, brat. You’re the one that wanted to join the world. Reagan and I are trying to catch you up on how to participate in the land of the living.”

“Because everyone will love reading how I was up doing dishes until midnight,” I say.

“Tell them you were doing it naked and half the boys in school will follow you.” Reagan tosses me a sly smirk and I laugh. She’s always saying things that push the envelope. “Tell them you’ll post the picture if you reach five hundred followers. Watch your stats climb, girl.”

“That would be interesting.” A new voice joins the conversation.

I see the jeans first. Actually I see a rip in the jeans, and that rip is an inch above the knee, and I’m staring at a very muscular male thigh. I enter this weird zone, because there’s this sinking feeling of where this is heading, and ominous sirens are sounding off.

It’s like being stuck in slow motion as I glance up. My heart stops. Starts. And when it starts again, I find I can’t breathe. Golden hair that’s a little long on top. Light blue eyes drinking me in. All I see is a whole lot of gorgeous…and dangerous.

It’s Thomas freaking Turner. He wears the same leather vest that he had on the other night, and underneath it is a black T-shirt with the name of an old-school metal band. My eyes automatically scan his patches and I wonder which one is the warning that he carries a gun.

His fingers skim my desk as he strides past. There are small cuts on his knuckles, and the skin on his hands look rough—like him. For some reason, I find that attractive. It reminds me of him hunched in front of his bike yesterday as he was repairing his machine. The steady way he moved. The serious set of his face. The way the muscles in his arms flexed as he worked.

“Hello, Breana.” Thomas’s voice is deep, smooth and feels like a caress along my skin.

About Shopping For A Billionaire's Wife

Who needs a SWAT team to escape from their own wedding? Me.

My Momzilla turned us into hostages at our own ceremony, so Declan and I are getting married the good old-fashioned way, just like everybody else.

By calling in his private security team, stealing away before the ceremony by helicopter, connecting to his corporate jet and heading for Las Vegas.

The Boston wedding of the year is about to become a trashy Elvis drive-thru ceremony.

Until the best man spills the beans and Mom, Dad, my sisters, his brothers, my maid of honor, my friend Josh, and even my cat, Chuckles, all come along for the ride.

I can’t win, can I?

Oh. Yeah. I already did.

Love conquers all.

Even my crazy family.

Shopping for a Billionaire's Wife is the 8th book in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Shopping for a Billionaire series. After Declan convinces Shannon to escape from their own wedding minutes before the ceremony begins, the madcap adventures are just getting started. Excerpt

“I thought fleeing the wedding would solve our problems!”

Hot skin rubs against my shivering form as my blood reacts to the reality, Declan’s long, muscled body enveloping mine. The enormity of the situation sends ice water through me. The abyss of nuptial dysfunction that my mother has created is a cataclysmic Armageddon. It’s all too much.

“I think escaping the wedding did solve one problem, but...” His voice trails off into skepticism.

“But what?”

“I think we’ve underestimated Marie.”

I sit up. “What?” That almost sounds complimentary, coming from Declan.

“She’s tenacious.”

“Ya think?”

He shrugs, one shoulder lifting, face impassive. A flicker of contemplation shines in his eyes. His jaw shifts slightly, muscles working hard as he becomes progressively tenser. “She’s really not going to give up.”

“And I’m never going to let you down, Declan,” I say, struggling to stay deadpan.

His eyes dart to me, and suddenly I’m being tickled, Declan on top of me, pinned between his knees as he hisses, “Your mother can get away with rickrolling you, but you do it to me, and I’ll punish you.”

Between gasps of laughter and the sensitive, almost-pukey feeling I get when tickled, I say, “Punish? Obey is bad enough and I won’t say it in the vows. But punish?”

“You look like a woman who could use a good spanking.”

“What about a bad spanking?” I rasp, one hand sliding up his thigh.

His eyes go dark. “I’m so glad we have another fifty or so years to get to know each other.”

“Only fifty?”

“Your mother is shortening my life. Stress will do that.”

“You feel stress?”

He gives me a look.

“You’d never guess. Your idea of stress seems to be going thirty-six hours without sex.”

“That is, most firmly, my idea of stress, Shannon.”

I seek out something else that’s most firm, Declan’s eyes smoldering, his hands working the buckle of his kilt.

Time and space won’t stop Seth from eliminating his target...

In the year 2040, futuristic hit man Seth Langdon travels the world by rifts in time, carving a successful career in murdering corrupt men and women. He's the top assassin working for the elite underground agency, Haroun.

If you’ve killed one scumbag, you’ve killed them all...

During a routine assignment in Oklahoma, Seth carries out the hit of an arms smuggler, David Bloom. But after the job is done, Seth can’t shake the feeling something is very wrong. He’s left haunted by the memory, but what made Bloom so different than Seth’s other targets?

Then his next assignment rolls in...

After a coveted promotion, Seth becomes an Expult agent—an assassin with the freedom and rights to eliminate specific targets. For his first official hit with the new job title, he's ordered to kill animal activist Terra Bloom, daughter of David Boom. Regardless of Seth’s guilt over killing her father, she’s just another target...or is she?

Seth’s moral compass spins out of control as inner struggles clash with his dedication to the job. When his decisions lead to tragic consequences, Seth and Terra embark on a journey, fleeing from the very organisation Seth dedicated his life to.

When a trained killer falls for his mark, he’ll use every resource to protect her—even if he’s deemed a Rogue Agent.

Excerpt

Seth tore the hotel room apart looking for anything to numb the pain. The bottle of pills he found under the sink didn’t cut it; neither did the bottle of vodka he boosted from the bodega down the road. Despite the promise of a bone crunching headache in the morning, he tilted his head and tipped the liquid into his empty gut.

From his position on the bed, he sneered at the bible on the table, forcing a half-assed laugh. The book cruelly reminded him that he had no right to ask for retribution from anyone. He was the last man to redeem himself. Trix was dead because of him. Was this punishment for choosing Terra over her? Spencer did the one thing he’d vowed he would never do: kill an agent’s loved one. For his act of treason, Seth was expecting some sort of rebuttal, but not this. The hotel room door opened and Terra entered, cradling a paper bag of groceries against her chest.

“Are you still nursing that bottle? Why don’t you take a shower? It will make you feel better.”

He snorted a response.

“Come on,” she cajoled. “You’ve always told me to move on. I’ m sorry about Trix but maybe it was for the —”

He was out of the chair and in her face so fast the paper bag slipped from her fingers and spewed its contents onto the carpet.

“You don’t get to say shit about Trix!” he yelled, shoving a finger in her face. “You didn’t

know her at all. If I never listened to the fucking voice in my head and saved you, she might be still alive.”

“You can’t blame me for that,” Terra shot back, gathering the fallen items back into the bag. “I’m sorry for her death, but you saved me for a reason. That little voice in your head decided to make a decision that ultimately changed your life. You’re a good man, Seth, and for what it’ s worth, I trust you. Somewhere deep inside me, I know I’m safe around you.”

He had no response.

“When I lost my father, I didn’t understand the pain I was feeling. He and I never got along when I was growing up, we were polar opposites. As a teenager, I made his life hell and my mother was at her wit’s end. When I turned sixteen, I moved out and never looked back. I did love him, of course, and it hurts that we never got to resolve our issues. I moved on.”

“Your father was a criminal,” he sneered.

Her lips formed a thin line and she turned her back on him. “You’ re hurting so I’ m going to let that one slide. I knew my dad. He was a good man, despite our history.”

“I knew who he was.”

Terra ripped the empty vodka bottle from his grip. “Shut up, Seth. You just want revenge.”

“Of course I do.”

She came up close, pressing her breasts against his chest, breathing hot air onto his neck.

“The best revenge is to live, Seth. Spencer hasn’t tracked us down yet. We left the park before his men could find us. Would Trix want you to cower in fear all your life?”

He gazed into her azure blue eyes and saw something he thought he’ d never find again: redemption. He wanted to kiss her, to taste her, but the memory of Trix’s head exploding into million pieces expelled the desire.

“Do you remember their faces?” Terra asked, unmoving, still close to him. “The men and women you killed over the years.”

“There’s too many of them.”

She drew lazy circles in his shirt, her eyes burrowing into his. “You need to relax and let loose. You’re too uptight. We sat in that stinky state train for two days to Richmond and you of all people need to unwind. I know a place.”

I sip my decaf coffee—which totally defeats the purpose of coffee, I understand that, but regular coffee gives me worse migraines than I already get—and stare a hole into my monitor. Yeah, I'm still one of those people who have a monitor. I have a desktop, a keyboard, a computer chair, and the whole mid-2000s thing going on in my bedroom/office. It's the one room in the apartment where I can get away from everything. My place to shut the door, turn up the music, and dance if I want to dance. And I do want to dance. Nineties' music is my specialty, and I use that word very loosely.

My room is my place to shut out the world. To stay awake and not sleep. To hide from my nightmares. To hide from Hart.

Every morning for the past week, it's the same routine. I get up and rub my throat, because it hurts like a mother from all the screaming I apparently do in my sleep. As a side note, this is why I try not to sleep now when Sam's here. Which means I don't get a whole lot of sleep, but what's sleep when you are eighteen? Eighteen year olds don't need sleep. We need parties and friends and boyfriends to not think we are crazy.

Top Favorite Book Heroines

Is it bad that though I love writing strong female characters, I can't recall too many in all the books I've read? Perhaps it's more that I don't remember anymore but I'll try to jog my memory here. These are in no particular order.

#1: Tika Waylan from Dragonlance. First appearance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman

A simple Inn of the Last Home barmaid at first, she becomes a warrior with a whack of a frying pan. That's right. She gives a nice iron sandwich, if I recall correctly, to a draconian when she's had enough. This throws her on the run but that's not too bad. She's always had a thing for Caramon Majere. When I played Dragonlance role playing game, she was my character and I rarely used the sword. That frying pan just did far better damage. ;)

#2: Birdie from Crux by Julie Reece

Here's a chick that wants nothing to do with her destiny but it crashes into her anyways. Though the questions she seeks don't really get answered, she forges ahead with the inner strength of a girl who earned every damn thing she gained in life the hard way.

#3: Ellie Vyne from The Wicked Wedding of Miss Ellie Vyne by Jayne Fresina

This woman dresses up like a man and swindles the man she eventually falls in love with out of a family heirloom. Her trickster ways catch up to her, though, but the HEA ending is all my heart could hope for.

#4: Aubree Culling from Ricochet by Keri Lake

This story was very, very dark—and that realism made me love this character. Plus, in some ways, it reminded me of my own personal struggles in a relationship I broke free of. The things she did to survive, almost mechanical in nature, had me pulling for her happy ending. She was brave in a world that nearly demoralized her spirit.

#5 Ellen Grayson from Louder than Words by Iris St. Clair

I don't read much YA and am very particular on the ones I read. This one makes the list. We have Ellen who helps out in a summer camp. A real warm soul but inside? She's got her own demons. This character embodies the struggle that girls go through in high school and what happens when you have a parent that's never there all the while hiding a secret that's eating her from the inside out. I love her strength through the pain of all her wicked little author put her through.

#6 Melinda Sordino from Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

Throughout this book, Melinda spirals down to the lowest depths a person can get in their adolescent life before everything takes shape. This was recommended by a good friend and I'm glad he did. The character tore me up and you don't find out what happened to her until the end. Through all the mudslinging and bullying that most teenagers go through, she endures and the truth comes out of what caused her change. It's a story that still transcends.

#7 Jem from Darkness & Light by JA Belfield

Again, this had shade of my own previous life in it. A woman caged in a relationship that she thought she enjoyed until it all unravels. She finds her inner strength and the man destiny had always had in mind for her. The strength she finds to overcome an abusive relationship and to tame the beast who stole her heart and seeks to protect her is endearing.

#8 & #9 Rachel Morgan (and Ivy for that matter) from For a Few Demons More by Kim Harrison

Although this is #5 in the Hollows series, it was actually the first one I ever read. Again, the author was recommended by a friend. The dynamic between these two was spectacular. Strengths and weaknesses all rolled up in one nice package. Adversity will always follow these two yet they always find a way. I love it. This book also made me not only buy the first four books but continue with the series to this day. I got the pleasure of meeting Kim Harrison at the Virginia Festival of the Book. Wonderful person through and through.

#10 Tessa from Find Freedom by Lynn Burke

Okay, I beta'd this bad boy but still. I loved how Tessa found herself and learned to love who she was, not what people wanted her to be. There is nothing more freeing than that.

Excerpt

Those fucking legs.

They were the first thing I noticed when I met Saige. Her legs go on for miles. I thought I was hiring a midwestern farm girl; however, she is anything but. She's been a bit of a mystery to me—all of her social media accounts are locked down, and no online photos. She’s almost as good at being as invisible as I am, except I paid someone a lot of money to keep me off the Internet. I hired her sight unseen and only because of her last name. Thankfully, her credentials matched exactly what I was looking for, which made it easier on me and less likely for HR to question my motives.

And then I met her. Her and her long dark hair and those fucking endless legs. She left me speechless. Everything about her was nothing I had expected. Tall and lean. Dark and fair. Kind and ambitious. Mysterious and perfect. Exquisite. She is perfection.

I stand outside Bar 51 and take a deep, cleansing breath. “What the fuck are you doing, Hamilton?” I run my hands through my hair. I cannot go out for drinks with her. I know I shouldn’t, but fuck if I could tell her no.

“Mr. Hamilton?” The sound of my name pulls me from my thoughts, and I turn around to find Saige and our other employees huddled together. “You waiting on someone?” Isaiah Gutierrez asks me. I look past him to see Saige standing arm in arm with Rowan Hansen.

“Uh, no. Was just getting some fresh air before I head home.” I turn my attention back to Isaiah. “You guys headed out?”

“Yeah, it’s that time.” He gives a short laugh. His eyes are bloodshot and glossy.

“Well, I hope you all enjoyed your evening,” I tell Isaiah, but I turn my attention back to Saige as I shrug my suit coat on.

The group of them begins to chat and laugh before they disperse. Saige gives me a small wave as she starts to walk away, her arm still looped through Rowan’s. Part of me wants to rip her away from him, and the other part of me is happy she’s found a friend that she can trust—a very gay friend, thankfully.

Rowan helps her keep her balance as they walk down the street, and I smile as she giggles. I catch her look over her shoulder at me one last time before they turn the corner and disappear, but not before I memorize the look of want in her eyes.

Review

Saige Phillips' life hasn't always been sunshine and roses. When she was younger, her family was forced to move from Chicago to North Dakota. It was a big change for Saige, but there would one more life changing moment that would forever change Saige's world. Now several years later, she's back in Chicago settling into her new job, living with her best friends and making new friends.

Little does she know, but she's caught the eye of one of the owners of Jackson-Hamilton Aviation. Holt Hamilton just wanted to help Saige out but one look at her and he was smitten. Everyone can see the way he looks at her, so one night while out with co-workers she gets dare to ask Mr. Hamilton out.

Who can say no to dare? Not Saige. Plus there is something about Holt that draws her to him.

A drink turns into dinner, dancing and more. Then one night turns into something more. But Holt is keeping a secret that could cause Saige to walk away. So when the truth comes out, how will Saige handle it? And can their relationship withstand the blow?

Oh my goodness, what a sexy and enchanting book. From the start, Rebecca captures the reader all the way until the end. Sure Holt is tall, dark, handsome, and somewhat mysterious, but his compassion and heart shine through this exterior. He is very protective, but not just of his family but his friends and employees. His past isn't all sunshine and roses, so that's why he is they way he is.

Saige is stronger than she gives herself credit for. Her past shaped her into the person she is, but she's trying to move on. Even with her demons, she moves back to the city that holds so many good memories for her and made some new friends. And when her world turns upside down, she stays true to herself and in the end, she'll take the dare to get what she wants.

I enjoyed this book and fell head over heals for Holt. I was enraptured by Rebecca's writing and can't wait to see what comes next with his series.

Ameerah - tour header

Sometimes even the dead seek salvation.

In 1925, eighteen-year-old Ameerah Arrowood is murdered in an insane asylum. She finds herself transported to a dreary realm that turns out to be a recruiting station for the dark spirits. With animosity in her heart toward humanity, she decides to join them.

For the next ninety years, Ameerah possesses soulless humans, living a hedonistic, mischievous and sometimes vengeful existence, but now she's seeking salvation so she can crossover and save her lost love who is stuck in the lower world.

Ameerah enlists the help of her dark spirit friend Derek, who is straddling the line between Heaven and Hell. She tells him how it all began, weaving between historical timelines to now, hoping to gain understanding about why her parents betrayed her and wanting to get rid of the guilt weighing on her heart. In the end, the unexpected unfolds, throwing Ameerah a curve ball which changes her forever.
